To be considered for any of the awards listed below, students must be enrolled full-time in a program from the Centre for Arts, Design & Information Technology and can apply by selecting Divisional Winter Awards in the Student Profile application through STU-VIEW during the award application window.

School of Design

COBMEX® Scholarships: Empowering Innovation and Sustainability in Uniform Design and Apparel

The COBMEX® Innovation in Uniform Design Scholarship and the COBMEX® Sustainability in Uniform Apparel Scholarship are awarded to students who demonstrate a passion for innovation and sustainability in the fashion and textile industries. These scholarships are made possible by the generous gift from COBMEX® Apparel Inc. to the George Brown College Foundation.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Registered full-time domestic and/or international student
  • Full-time students in Fashion Business Industry, Fashion Management, Fashion Techniques and Design, or International Fashion Management
  • Demonstrates financial need as determined by the Institution's policies
  • Passion for their field of study and advocacy for sustainable practices in the fashion and textile industries

Essay Requirements:

  • COBMEX® Innovation in Uniform Design Scholarship: Submit a 300-500 word essay suggesting creative approaches to innovate uniform design.
  • COBMEX® Sustainability in Uniform Apparel Scholarship: Submit a 300-500 word essay sharing ideas for innovative solutions to promote sustainability in the uniform industry

Dean's Award of Excellence

  • Be enrolled in an Arts (Fashion, Jewellery) program
  • Be in their graduating year
  • Demonstrate superior academic performance
  • GPA 3.5 and above
  • Active involvement in extra-curricular activities and leadership
  • Contribute to the learning environment

To apply: Write a one page letter addressed to Dean Luigi Ferrara, detailing how you meet the award criteria listed above. Letters need to include your name, program, mailing address and student ID number at the top of the letter.

Submit your letter to the Fashion & Jewellery, Administrative Office, Room C442, 160 Kendal Ave., Casa Loma campus Attention: Awards Applications –Dean’s Award.

The winner will be invited to their program Awards ceremony at end of semester. It is expected that the award recipient will attend the ceremony to accept their award and provide a thank you card to the donor.

Albina Skibicka Bursary

Laurentian Technomedia Inc has donated funds for the establishment of the Albina Skibicka Bursary. The award is available to students in the G102 program in any year of study.

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must display financial need
  • The student must have demonstrated excellence in magazine page layout

Alex Sigal Great Treasurers Award

The George Brown College Seniors’ Association has donated funds to create the Alex Sigal Great Treasurers Award. This award is available to full-time students in the P106 – Commercial Dance Program. To be eligible for this award, the student must have a program GPA of 3.5 or higher and demonstrate passion for their field of study.

Asia Shahulhameed and Mohamed Rafi Scholarship

Asia Shahulhameed and Mohamed Rafi have donated funds for the establishment of an award to be presented to a full-time student that identifies as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Colour, who is enrolled in a program from the Centre for Arts and Design and Information Technology at George Brown College in the School of Computer Studies.

Canadian Rotographics Limited Scholarship

Canadian Rotographics Limited has donated funds for the establishment of Canadian Rotographics Limited Scholarship. The award is available to full-time and/or part-time students in the School of Design.

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Demonstrates academic excellence with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater
  • Student is in their final year of study
  • Student shows an inspiring talent for Design but is at risk of dropping out due to personal or financial hardships

Christine Raissis Endowment

Christine Raissis has donated funds for the establishment of the Christine Raissis Endowment. This award is available to any registered George Brown College Student in Engineering Technologies or Computer Technologies who are involved in a research project.

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must display financial need
  • The student must maintain a 3.0 Min GPA or higher
  • The student produces a reference letter from an instructor, College staff member or industry partner
  • The student must display passion for their field of study

Francis Mak Memorial Scholarship

The School of Design has donated funds for the establishment of the Francis Mak Memorial Scholarship. The award is available to students in any design program in any year of study.

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must display financial need
  • The student must be open to working with others
  • Student must demonstrate that they have overcome obstacles in the pursuit of higher education

George and Dorothy Dilworth Graphic Arts Scholarship

Dennis Smith has donated funds for the establishment of the George and Dorothy Dilworth Graphic Arts Scholarship. The award is available to students in the Graphic Arts and Design programs in their second year of study.

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must display financial need
  • The student must demonstrate that they have high aptitude and scope for further development of technical aspects and conceptual skills needed to create high-impact graphic arts and design.

Institute without Boundaries Scholarship

Graeme Kondruss (GBC IWB Class 2010/11) has donated funds for the establishment of the Institute without Boundaries Scholarship. This award is available to registered George Brown College Students in the Centre for Arts, Design & IT in any year of study for the G414 program.

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must maintain a 3.0 Min GPA or higher
  • Student must demonstrate capabilities and skills required to foster social innovation and engage the community in developing meaningful design outcomes

Melissa Quan Memorial Award

Ronald Quan/Myrna Velasco-Quan has donated funds for the establishment of the Melissa Quan Memorial Award. This award is available to any registered George Brown College Student in the Centre for Arts, Design & IT in any year of study for the following program(s): T163, G119

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must display financial need
  • The student has overcome obstacles to undertake their studies at George Brown College
  • The student must display passion for their field of study
  • The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)

Randy Johnson Memorial Award

This Award was established to support the advancement of the education of students at the College. The award will be given to students in the School of Design who demonstrates a talent and passion for wayfinding and design.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled full-time in George Brown College School of Design.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.
  • Must exhibit a strong interest and commitment to their field of study through their extra-curricular activities, volunteer work, and involvement in the classroom.

School of Design Scholarship

The School of Design has donated funds for the establishment of the School of Design Scholarship. The award is available to students in the G102 program in any year of study.

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must display financial need
  • The student must be open to working with others and have demonstrated that they have overcome obstacles in the pursuit of higher education.

Scotiability Award

Scotiabank (Global Recruitment) has donated funds for the establishment of the Scotiability Award. This award is available to any registered George Brown College Student in the Centre for Arts, Design & IT/Centre For Business in any year of study for the following program(s): T175, T141, T127, T147, T163, T402, T405, T413, T411, T175, T141, T127, T147, T163, T402, T405, T413, T411, B103, B107, B150, B407, B302

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must demonstrate interest in the financial sector and identifies as living with a disability
  • The student must maintain a 3.0 Min GPA or higher
  • The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)

Shelley Warsh Memorial Scholarship

Gary Hanrahan has donated funds for the establishment of Shelley Warsh Memorial Scholarship. The award is available to students in the G102 program, with the highest cumulative average in GRAF 1004, GRAF 1014, and GRAF 2026.

The Cundari Scholarship

The Cundari Group has donated funds for the establishment of The Cundari Scholarship. The award is available to students in any design program in any year of study.

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must display financial need
  • Student should be self-motivated and passionate about learning.

The Experience Exchange by Huge

The Experience Exchange by Huge scholarship is available to full-time domestic students in seven programs at the Centre for Arts, Design, and Information Technology (CADIT) and the Project Management program (B415) at the Centre for Business.

To be eligible for the award, applicants must exhibit strong interest and commitment to their field of study through their extra-curricular activities, volunteer work, and involvement in the classroom. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need.

Preference will be given to students from underrepresented communities, including Black, Indigenous, Persons of Colour (BIPOC), persons living with a disability, women, and 2SLGBTQIA+.

Toronto Flag X GBC School of Design Scholarship

The Toronto Flag have will contribute a total of $5000 towards an award for the 2022/2023 academic year.  This scholarship gift is specifically designed to students in Centre for Arts, Design and Information Technology. 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be registered, full-time domestic and/or international student
  • Must be enrolled in any full-time diploma or degree program at the School of Design
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Must demonstrate financial need

Umbra Award for Design Excellence

Umbra has donated funds for the establishment of the Umbra Award for Design Excellence. The award is available to students in the G102 program in any year of study.

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must display financial need
  • The award will be presented to the top graphic design student based on creativity and design excellence.

The Van Raissis Award for Innovation

Christine Raissis has donated funds for the establishment of the Van Raissis Award for Innovation. The award is available to students involved in an applied research project in either the School of Engineering Technologies or the School of Computer Technologies.

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must display financial need
  • Letter of reference from an instructor, College staff member, or industry partner
  • The student has demonstrated a capacity and competence for innovation including a passion for technology and mathematics, as identified by an instructor or applied research team members

    The Academic Department has donated funds for the establishment of the Fashion Business Industry Award - 1st year. The award is available to students in the F112 program in their first year of study.

    Fashion Business Industry Award - 2nd year

    The Academic Department has donated funds for the establishment of the Fashion Business Industry Award - 2nd year. The award is available to students in the F112 program in their second year of study.

    Fashion Business Industry, First Year Student Achievement Award

    The Academic Department has donated funds for the establishment of the Fashion Business Industry, First Year Student Achievement Award. The award is available to students in the F112 program in their first year of study.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • The student must demonstrate the highest GPA in the first year.

    Fashion Management First Year Student Achievement Award

    The Academic Department has donated funds for the establishment of the Fashion Management First Year Student Achievement Award. The award is available to students in the F102 program in their first year of study.

    Fashion Management Award - 2nd Year

    The Academic Department has donated funds for the establishment of the Fashion Management Award - 2nd Year. The award is available to students in the F102 program in their second year of study.

    Fashion Techniques & Design Award - 1st year

    The Academic Department has donated funds for the establishment of the Fashion Techniques & Design Award - 1st year. The award is available to students in the F113 program in their first year of study.

    Fashion Techniques & Design Award - 2nd year

    The Academic Department has donated funds for the establishment of the Fashion Techniques & Design Award - 2nd year. The award is available to students in the F113 program in their second year of study.

    Frances Villano Fashion Award

    The Academic Department has donated funds for the establishment of the Frances Villano Fashion Award. The award is available to students in the F102 program in their graduating year of study.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • The student must demonstrate commitment to program, learning community, fellow students, and faculty endorsement.

    International Fashion Management & Development Award

    The Academic Department has donated funds for the establishment of the International Fashion Management & Development Award. The award is available to students in the F402 program in any year of study.

    Joan Landy Memorial Leadership Award

    Sharon Snitman has donated funds for the establishment of the Joan Landy Memorial Leadership Award. The award is available to students in the School of Fashion & Jewellery in any year of study.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • The student must demonstrate leadership qualities through various means such as volunteer community service.
    • The student must demonstrate a strong passion for the field of studies.

    School of Fashion Award for Excellence in Marketing

    This award is available to a George Brown College Student in Fashion (Centre for Arts, Design & IT) in their second year of study for the following program(s): F102, F112

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • The student must maintain a 3.0 Min GPA or higher
    • The student must display passion for their field of study
    • The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)
    • The student must have the highest combined average in FASH2004 and FASH2008

    School of Fashion Scholarship

    Anne Sardo has donated funds for the establishment of the School of Fashion & Jewellery Scholarship. This award is available to any registered George Brown College Student in Fashion (Centre for Arts, Design & IT) in any year of study for the following program(s): F102, F112, F113, F412, F414, and F415

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • The student must display financial need
    • The student must maintain a 2.5 Min GPA or higher
    • The student must be a registered domestic student
    • The student must display passion for their field of study’
    • The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)

    Sharon Snitman Scholarship

    Sharon Snitman has donated funds for the establishment of the Sharon Snitman Scholarship. This award is available to any registered George Brown College Student in Fashion (Centre for Arts, Design & IT) in any year of study for the following program(s): F112

    William Villano Fashion Award

    The Academic Department has donated funds for the establishment of the William Villano Fashion Award. The award is available to students in the F102 program in their graduating year of study.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • The student must be a graduating student in F102 Fashion management with high GPA, demonstrating commitment to program, learning community, fellow students, and faculty endorsement.

    The Honourable Company of Freemen of the City of London in North America Scholarship

    The Honourable Company of Freemen Charitable Trust has donated funds for the establishment of the The Honourable Company of Freemen of the City of London in North America Scholarship. This award is available to any registered George Brown College Student in Fashion (Centre for Arts, Design & IT) who are graduating for all programs in this category

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • The student must display passion for their field of study
    • Preference to student who is attending University of the Arts London

    Jewellery Arts

    Creative CADworks Award

    Hemdeep Patel (H.K. Diamonds Inc.) has donated funds for the establishment of the Creative CADworks Award. This award is available to any registered George Brown College Student in Jewellery (Centre for Arts, Design & IT) in any year of study for the following program(s): F110, F114, F111

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • Submit design packages, demonstrate innovative and outstanding use of Rhinoceros 3D CAD modelling application in jewellery design and manufacturing

    Birk's Award

    The Birk's Award is available to graduating students in the F110 program.

    The award will be presented to a student whose work demonstrates a commitment to the pursuit of goldsmithing excellence.

    Bob Willlie Award

    The Bob Willlie Award is available to students in the F114, F110 programs in their fourth semester (if enrolled in F114 or F110) or sixth semester (F114).

    The award will be presented to a student who has demonstrated excellence in stone setting combined with general academic performance.

    Canadian Gemmological Association Award

    The Canadian Gemmological Association has donated fund for the establishment of Canadian Gemmological Association Award. It is available to students in the Gemmology Program (F105).

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • Registered, full-time domestic and/or international student or;
    • Student is in their second semester of study
    • Demonstrates a commitment to continued studies and accreditation in the gemmology field
    • GPA of 3.0 or greater

    Canadian Jewellers Association Award

    The Canadian Jewellers Association Award is available to students in the F114 program in their 4th semester of study.

    The award recognizes 4th semester students in the Jewellery Arts program who have demonstrated an excellence in their commitment to the pursuit of goldsmithing.

    Daniel Myerson Memorial Award

    Myerson’s Limited has donated funds for the establishment of the Daniel Myerson Memorial Award. The award recognizes students enrolled in Jewellery Arts (F114) or Jewellery Methods (F110) Program.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • Student in his/her final semester
    • Demonstrates strong gold fabrication skills
    • Must submit design packages

    Gambhir's Import Award for Excellence in Design

    Gambhir's Import has donated funds for the establishment of the Gambhir's Import Award for Excellence in Design. The award is available to students in the F114 program in their third year of study.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • The student must demonstrate the best use of coloured stones or pearls.

    Gambhir's Import Award for Academic Excellence

    Gambhir's Import has donated funds for the establishment of the Gambhir's Import Award for Academic Excellence. The award is available to students in the F114 program in their third year of study.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • The student must demonstrate the highest CGPA through 5 semesters.

    Gerstein & Bitters' Scholarship

    Marvin Gerstein has donated funds for the establishment of the Gerstein & Bitters' Scholarship. The award is available to students in all jewellery programs in their first year of study.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • The student must demonstrate effort and perceived potential.

    Gesswein Award

    The Gesswein Award is available to students in the F114, F110 programs in their fourth semester (if enrolled in F114 or F110) or sixth semester (F114).

    The award recognizes a student that displays initiative in technical explorations in their work.

    H. & M. Perrin Award

    The H. & M. Perrin Award is available to students in Jewelry diploma programs in their graduating year of study.

    The award recognizes a student whose work demonstrates excellence in academic performance, achievement in their practical work, and community involvement and professionalism.

    Jewlr Award

    Jewlr Award is available to students enrolled in the Jewellery Methods (F110) program.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • A graduating student who is in his/her final semester
    • Has a program cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
    • Demonstrate the commitment and spirit of dedication to the jewellery manufacturing sector

    Lacy & Company Award

    The Lacy &Company Award is available to students in all Jewellery Programs in their second semester year of study. The award recognizes students with a high GPA in their first semester.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • Minimum GPA of 3.0

    Louis Frankian Diamond Jewellers Award

    The Louis Frankian Diamond Jewellers Award is available to students in the F114 program in their sixth semester of study.

    The award will be presented to a student who has used diamonds creatively and appropriately in jewellery or design

    Made You Look Entrepreneur Award

    The Made You Look Entrepreneur Award is available to students in the F114, F110 programs in their fourth semester (if enrolled in F114 or F110) or sixth semester (F114).

    The award will be presented to a student who has demonstrated that their goal is to run a sustainable small business as a self-employed jewellery designer post-graduation. The application must include jewellery or photos of jewellery, a letter that explains why you believe you are the best recipient for the award, and an orientation with Sarah Hamsel at Made You Look.

    Mejuri Jewellery Competition Award

    Mejuri has donated funds for the establishment of the Mejuri Competition Award. The award recognizes students enrolled in Jewellery Arts (F114) program in his or her 4th semester of study. The award will be presented to student who has the winning submission of design packages to Mejuri production jewellery design competition.

    Mika's Intention Scholarship

    Frederick Knittel has donated funds for the establishment of the Mika's Intention Scholarship. The award is available to students in any Jewelry program in any year of study.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • The student must display financial need
    • Student whose circumstances necessitate a second career

    Nick Malajczuk Memorial Scholarship

    GBC ADIT (Rosa Fracassa Rep.) has donated funds for the establishment of the Nick Malajczuk Memorial Scholarship . This award is available to any registered George Brown College Student in the Centre for Arts, Design & IT who are in their 2nd Year (3rd Semester) for the following program(s): F113

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • The student must maintain a 3.0 Min GPA or higher
    • The student has overcome obstacles to undertake their studies at George Brown College
    • The student must display passion for their field of study
    • The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)

    Platinum Unlimited Award

    The Platinum Unlimited Award is available to students in a Jewelry diploma programs in their graduating year of study.

    The award will be presented to a student whose work demonstrates technical excellence.

    Sarah & Arthur Frankel Gemsetting Award

    Sarah & Arthur Frankel Gemsetting Award is available to students in the F114, F110 programs in their fourth semester (if enrolled in F114 or F110) or sixth semester (F114).

    The award will be presented to a graduating jewellery student whose work demonstrates excellence in gem setting.

    School of Media & Performing Arts

    A.C. McDonell Memorial Scholarship

    The estate of A.C. McDonnell has donated funds for the establishment of the A.C. McDonell Memorial Scholarship. The award is available to students in the P104 program in all years of study.

    Corus Entertainment's Theatre, Television & Film Scholarship

    Corus Entertainment Inc. has donated funds for the establishment of the Corus Entertainment's Theatre, Television & Film Scholarship. This award is available to any registered George Brown College Student in Arts & Design (Theatre) in any year of study for the following program(s): P104

    • The student must display financial need

    David Walden Memorial Scholarship

    Various donors have donated funds for the establishment of the David Walden Memorial Scholarship. The award is available to students in the P104 program in their second or third year of study.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • The student must display financial need
    • The student must demonstrate that they have exceptional musical talent,
    • The student must demonstrate that they are self-motivated
    • The student must demonstrate that they are passionate about learning, have an openness to learning from and working with others.

    Deloitte & Touche Scholarship

    Deloitte & Touche has donated funds for the establishment of the Deloitte & Touche Scholarship. The award is available to students in the P104 program in all years of study.

    Esther Farlinger Theatre Scholarship

    Esther Farlinger has donated funds for the establishment of the Esther Farlinger Theatre Scholarship. The award is available to students in the P104 program in all years of study.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • Minimum GPA Requirement of 3.0
    • The student must display financial need
    • The student must demonstrate a commitment and spirit of dedication to their area of study.

    HSBC Scholarship

    HSBC Bank Canada has donated funds for the establishment of the HSBC Scholarship. The award is available to students in the P104 program in all years of study.

    Esther Wong Excellence in Dancing Award

    This gift is specifically designed for George Brown College, Centre for Arts, Design and Information Technology – School of Performing Arts.

    One (1) award of $1,000 will be presented to one (1) full-time student from the School of Performing Arts at George Brown College with the following criteria.

    Criteria:

    • Registered, full-time domestic and/or international student
    • Enrolled in one of the following programs:

    John Bannerman Memorial Bursary

    The John Bannerman Memorial Bursary is available to students in the School of Media and Performing Arts-Theatre Performance in their third year of study, who perform a vocal masque.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • The student must demonstrate determination and a genuine commitment to their training
    • Student must be ready to embrace all opportunities

    MDC Partners Scholarship

    MDC Partners Inc. has donated funds for the establishment of the MDC Partners Scholarship. The award is available to students in the P104 program in all years of study.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • The student must display financial need

    Scotiabank Scholarship in the Faculty of Business and Creative Arts

    Scotiabank has donated funds for the establishment of the Scotiabank Scholarship in the Faculty of Business and Creative Arts. The award is available to students in the P104 program in all years of study.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • The student must display financial need

    Theatre Arts Fellowship Award

    George Brown Seniors Association has donated funds for the establishment of the Theatre Arts Fellowship Award. The award is available to students in any program in the School of Media and Performing Arts in any year of study.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • Student must show high standard of performance within the academic year
    • Student must be a supportive presence to others in the program

    Theatre School Scholarship

    Theatre School have donated funds for the establishment of the Theatre School Scholarship. The award is available to students in the P104 program in all years of study.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • The student must display financial need
    • Student must demonstrate excellence

    Thomas White Memorial Bursary

    Ray Wares has donated funds for the establishment of the Thomas White Memorial Bursary. The award is available to students in the School of Media and Performing Arts-Theatre Performance in their third year of study.

    The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

    • Show great promise to establish themselves as a professional actor based on their talent and work ethic

    Timshel Challenge

    An anonymous donor has donated funds for the establishment of the Timshel Challenge student to acknowledge a student who has embraced the training offered here at the school, through hard work. The award is available to students in any program in the School of Media and Performing Arts-Theatre Performance in their second year of study.
