To be considered for any of the awards listed below, students must apply by selecting Divisional Winter Awards through STU-VIEW and be enrolled full-time in a Community Service and Early Childhood Program.

Available Awards
AWCCA Faculty Team Scholarship
AWCCA faculty donated funds for the establishment of the AWCCA Faculty Team Scholarship. The award is available to students in the R107 Assaulted Women's & Children's Counsellor Advocate program in their second year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- Student must display financial need;
- The student must demonstrate outstanding group process skills and contribute to a positive classroom learning environment.
AWCCA Scholarship
AWCCA faculty donated funds for the establishment of the AWCCA Scholarship. The award is available to students in the R107 Assaulted Women's & Children's Counsellor Advocate program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- The student must demonstrate financial need.
Bob Luker Community Worker Scholarship
Various donors have donated funds for the establishment of the Bob Luker Community Worker Scholarship. The Bob Luker Community Worker Scholarship is available to students in the C101 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- The student must display financial need
- The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)
- The students must commit to social justice and supporting other students
C300 Entrance Bursary
The C300 Entrance Bursary is available to students in the C300 program in their first year of study.
David Condie Memorial Award
Theresa Condie has donated funds for the establishment of the David Condie Memorial Award. This award is available to any registered George Brown College Student in Community Services (Community Service & Early Childhood Services) in any year of study for the following program(s): C108
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- The student must display financial need
- The student must maintain a 3.0 Min GPA or higher
- Student is completing their field placement outside of Ontario
Career Development Practitioner Endowment
This award is available to any registered domestic George Brown College Student enrolled in the Career Development Practitioner Program (C406) who are in their 2ND semester.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- The student must be a resident of Ontario for at least 12 months prior to enrolment
- The student must display financial need
- The student must maintain a 3.5 Min GPA or higher
- Student exhibits a commitment and spirit of dedication to their chosen are of professional study
Community Services Scholarship
This award is available to any registered George Brown College Student in Community Services (Community Service & Early Childhood Services) in any year of study for all programs in this category
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- The student must display financial need
- The student must be in good academic standing
- The student must be a registered domestic student
Dorothy Bradley Memorial Award
Lon Lawson Fund for Child and Youth Counsellor Education has donated funds for the establishment of the Dorothy Bradley Memorial Award. The award is available to students in the C133 program in their third year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- The student must display financial need
- The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)
- The students must be a member of Ontario Association of Child and Youth Counsellors
- The student must demonstrate aptitude and interest in working with families
Douglas E. Light Scholarship - Community Worker
Helen Light has donated funds for the establishment of the Douglas E. Light Scholarship - Community Worker. The award is available to students in the C101 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)
- The student must demonstrate commitment to field
Douglas E. Light Scholarship - ECE
Helen Light has donated funds for the establishment of the Douglas E. Light Scholarship. The award is available to students in the C100 (ECE), C118 (ECE) program in their second year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

Early Childhood Education Academic Award
Various have donated funds for the establishment of the Early Childhood Education Academic Award. The award is available to students in the C100, C118 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- The student must display financial need
- Student must exhibit commitment to children and families in the early year's sector
- Student must display exemplary behaviour inside and outside of classroom
- Student should be self-motivated, passionate about learning and demonstrate above average abilities in program
Eider Scholarship
Redpoll Foundation has donated funds for the establishment of the Eider Scholarship. This award is available to any registered George Brown College Student in Community Services & Health Sciences in any year of study for all programs in this category
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- The student must display financial need
- The student must maintain a 3.0 Min GPA or higher
- The student must be a registered domestic student
- The student must display passion for their field of study
"Gabi" Milius Memorial Award
Jacqueline Tan has donated funds for the establishment of the "Gabi" Milius Memorial Award. This award is available to any registered George Brown College Student in Community Service & Early Childhood Services in any year of study for the following program(s): C101
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- The student must display financial need
- The student must be a sole support parent
- The student has overcome obstacles to undertake their studies at George Brown College
- The student must be a registered domestic student
- The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)
Harry A. Newman Memorial Scholarship
Richard John Newman Charity Foundation has donated funds for the establishment of the Harry A. Newman Memorial Scholarship. The award is available to students in the C119 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- The student must display financial need
- The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)
- Student must demonstrate leadership qualities
Jean Jordan Assaulted Women and Children's Counsellor Advocate Scholarship
Beth Jordan has donated funds for the establishment of the Jean Jordan Assaulted Women and Children's Counsellor Advocate Scholarship. The award is available to students in the R107 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- Student must display financial need;
- The student must demonstrate commitment to the program's focus.
Jennifer Whitaker Tessema Memorial Scholarship
This award has been established to honour Jennifer Whitaker (Tessema), the donors late mother and wife. Metti Tessema has agreed to contribute $2000 towards 2 (two) awards at $1,000 each, for the 2023/2024 academic year.
Jennifer was an alumnus of the first graduating class of the Assaulted Women and Children’s (AWCC) Program at George Brown College (GBC). She was a survivor of family violence, a child of the 60’s scoop, at points early on in her journey she was a lone parent and able to rebuild her life and transform the lives of so many people, as a result of her time at GBC. She spent an almost 35-year career giving back to families in the community. Her passion, care, and resilience she named from her instructors, experiences, and knowledge she received from the AWCC program at George Brown College
The donor has developed this fund to honour the life of Jennifer Whitaker and to help other students who are following a similar path achieve their goals.
The gift is specifically designated to George Brown College, Centre for Community Services & Early Childhood – Assaulted Women’s and Children’s Counsellor/Advocate Program (AWCCA) – C137.
Criteria:
- Registered, full-time domestic and/or international student,
- Is enrolled as a full-time student in the Assaulted Women’s and Children’s Counsellor/Advocate (AWCCA) – C137 program at George Brown Colleges Centre for Community Services & Early Childhood.
- Students must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Institution’s policies.
- Exhibits a passion for their field of study and a spirit of dedication towards the topics of access and inclusion.
- Preference given to students who are parents or guardians.

Joan MacTavish Award in Memory of Mae Brown
Joan MacTavish has donated funds for the establishment of the Joan Mactavish Award in Memory of Mae Brown. This award is available to any registered George Brown College Student in Community Services (Community Service & Early Childhood Services) who are in their 2nd Year for the following program(s): C108
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- The student must maintain a 3.0 Min GPA or higher
Kay Oxford Memorial Bursary
Anne McKenzie-Rivers has donated funds for the establishment of the Kay Oxford Memorial Bursary. The award is available to students in any year in a program in the Centre for Community Service and Early Childhood.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- The student must display financial need
- Student must demonstrate an openness to learning from others and show a commitment to working with others.
Lamont Family Curriculum Award for Physical Health & Wellbeing
This award is available to any registered, full-time, domestic and/or international student at George Brown College who is enrolled in a program at the Centre for Community Services and Early Childhood.
Eligible students will exhibit a passion for creating curriculum that encourages the physical and mental wellbeing of children.
Les Webber Scholarship
Lon Lawson Fund for Child and Youth Counsellor Education has donated funds for the establishment of the Les Webber Scholarship. The award is available to students in the C104 program in their graduating year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- The student must display financial need
- The student must be a member of Ontario Association of Child and Youth Counsellors
- Student should demonstrate empathy for troubled children and that they have overcome their struggles.
- Student should likely remain in Child and Youth Worker field.
Lilia Santos-Villa Memorial Scholarship
Cordi Villa has donated funds for the establishment of the Lilia Santos-Villa Memorial Scholarship. The award is available to students in the R107 Assaulted Women's & Children's Counsellor Advocate program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- Student must display financial need;
- The student must demonstrate efforts to overcome obstacles, strive to achieve the "best for women," and focus on international work.
Lynda Roy Award
GBC Foundation has donated funds for the establishment of the Lynda Roy Award. This award is available to any registered George Brown College Student in the Centre for Preparatory & Liberal Studies who are in their 1st Year for the following program(s): R107
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- Demonstrates through education and advocacy, recognition of intersecting identities inclusive of the disability experience
Margot McGrath-Harding Memorial Scholarship
Nicholas Harding has donated funds for the establishment of the Margot McGrath-Harding Memorial Scholarship. The award is available to students in the C108 program in their first year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- The student must display financial need
- Write an essay on: Describing feelings, thoughts, experiences and challenges while reflecting on your first year of Intervener Program and how you look forward to continuing your second year (1500 words maximum)
Masonic Foundation of Ontario Scholarship
Masonic Foundation of Ontario has donated funds for the establishment of the Masonic Foundation of Ontario Scholarship. The award is available to students in the C134, C133 program in their third year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- The student must display financial need
Niechelle Kirsten Corcuera Memorial Scholarship
This gift is specifically designated to George Brown College, Centre for Community Services and Early Childhood – School for Deaf and Deafblind Studies
The Donor has agreed to direct contributions in the amount of $1,000 to one (1) full-time student.
Criteria:
- Must be a registered, full-time domestic or international student
- Student must be enrolled in the Deafblind & Intervenor Studies program (C158)
- Student must hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
- Student must demonstrate financial need
- Student must demonstrate leadership qualities either within the George Brown College community or externally in their communities
- Preference to be given to students who self-identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Person of Colour)

Noel Young Memorial Scholarship
Various donors have donated funds for the establishment of the Noel Young Memorial Scholarship. Students in any year of C300, C301, C118, C100, C130, C105 programs are able to apply for the scholarship.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- The student must display financial need
- The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)
- The student must demonstrate a commitment to advocacy and action in the field of Early Childhood Education
Ontario Association of Sign Language Interpreters Award
The Ontario Association of Sign Language Interpreters has designated an award specifically to the Centre for Community Services & Early Childhood, School of Deaf and Deafblind Studies, Honours Bachelor of Interpretation (American Sign Language-English) (C302)
One (1) award of $500 is designated to one (1) second year student in the Honours Bachelor of interpretation (American Sign Language - English) (C302) Program.
Criteria:
- Registered, full-time domestic and/or international student or
- Have applied for full-time studies at George Brown college and received a GBC student number
- Student who identifies as Deaf
- The student exhibits a commitment and spirit of dedication to the interpretation profession and the Deaf communities that interpreters serve (including but not limited to the values and benefits of volunteer expe1fonce in the related field and communities)
- The student demonstrates academic achievement for their chosen area of study

Ontario Association of Sign Language Interpreters Scholarship
The Ontario Association of Sign Language Interpreters has designated an award specifically to the Centre for Community Services & Early Childhood, School of Deaf and Deafblind Studies, Honours Bachelor of Interpretation (American Sign Language-English) (C302)
The award(s) will be presented to student(s) in the Honours Bachelor of interpretation (American Sign Language - English) (C302) Program at George Brown College accordingly:
- One (1) award of $375 is designated to one (1) student in their second year of study
- One (1) award of $525 is designated to one (1) student in their third year of study
- One (I) award of $600 is designated to one (1) student in their fourth year of study
Criteria:
- Registered, full-time domestic and/or international student or
- Have applied for full-time studies at George Brown college and received a GBC student number
- The student exhibits a commitment and spirit of dedication to the interpretation profession and the Deaf communities that interpreters serve (including but not limited to the values and benefits of volunteer expe1fonce in the related field and communities)
- The student demonstrates academic achievement for their chosen area of study

Phyllis Eileen Edwards Memorial Award
Robin Buyers has donated funds for the establishment of the Phyllis Eileen Edwards Memorial Award. The award is available to students in the C101 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- The student must display financial need
- The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)
- The student must display the values and skills of a good community worker which reflects on their work both inside and outside the college
Phyllis Walker Pace Canada Bursary
Sandra Whiting has donated funds for the establishment of the Phyllis Walker PACE Canada Bursary. Rachel Langford Award
Rachel Langford has donated funds for the establishment of the Rachel Langford Award. The award is available to students with a learning disability in the C100, C118 ECE programs in any year of study.

- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Student must provide proof of learning disability
Ron Sluser Scholarship
The Ron Sluser Scholarship is available to students in the C119, C135 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:
- The student must display financial need
- The students must demonstrate they have overcome obstacles and significant economic disadvantage.
Susan Stylianos Scholarship
Susan R. Stylianos has donated funds for the establishment of the Susan Stylianos Scholarship. This award is available to any registered George Brown College Student in Community Service & Early Childhood Services in any year of study for all programs in this category
