Program Overview

The Human Resources Management 12-month online graduate certificate program integrates business theory and practical application to highlight the importance of HR as a strategic partner in any organization. As a graduate of this program with a semester of real-world work experience, you'll be prepared to apply for a variety of positions, such as a human resources generalist or coordinator, recruiter, compensation analyst, or learning and development coordinator. 

This program is part of our online postgraduate programs. Online postgraduate programs offer working professionals the flexibility of a fully online program scheduled in the evening and on weekends. Join other students across Canada in live, instructor-led classes. In just eight months of study and a four-month work term, you'll acquire professional skills in a flexible, convenient format.

Full Description

As a student in the Human Resources Management 12-month online graduate certificate program, you’ll benefit from the insider knowledge of experienced HR professionals. You'll learn all about what an HR department does and what it takes to be a real pro in the workplace—including managing employee and labour relations, promoting diversity, and creating HR policies and programs. You'll also get to see what it’s actually like working in HR through a field placement, gaining valuable experience along the way to help you meet all the program's learning goals.

Here are some skills you’ll be able to show off after completion of the Human Resources Management program:

  • Facilitating employee training and development
  • Ensuring health and safety in the workplace
  • Recruiting and hiring employees
  • Recommending strategic change initiatives
  • Developing a total rewards system

For those students who wish to pursue the Certified Human Resources Professional designation (CHRP), all applicable courses in the B428 program are HRPA approved. The courses prepare students to write the National Knowledge Exam offered by the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA). Refer to hrpa.ca for requirements and additional information on this designation.

Technical Requirements:

  • A computer that runs on Windows 10 or the latest Mac OSX, has the latest updates applied and has up to date virus protection software
    • Windows 10 ARM64 devices are not recommended as they will not allow you to install AppsAnywhere and the Cisco AnyConnect client
  • High-speed broadband access (Cable or DSL) is highly recommended. Some programs or courses require more advanced systems
  • Headphones or speaker and a microphone for in-class conversations and meetings with your professors
  • A webcam (may be required for specific courses)
  •  Individual courses may have additional hardware requirements
  • A web browser, such as Safari, Firefox, MS Edge, Google Chrome

Your Field Education Options

Work Experience (co-op or internship work term)

This program requires the successful completion of one semester of work experience to graduate. This work experience is either co-op (paid) or internship (unpaid). Students are also strongly encouraged to pursue self-directed industry work experience opportunities they believe would provide the learning experiences they value and meet the learning outcomes of the program. This valuable work experience can in turn be added to your resume.

Career Options

Graduates of this program will be equipped to enter a wide range of positions across a broad spectrum of public and private sector organizations such as financial institutions, retail, general business, manufacturing, government, legal firms, human resources consulting firms and not-for-profit organizations. Students will develop the skills and knowledge to enter into the human resources field and be ready to move up the career ladder. Graduates of the program have found employment as:

Educational Pathways

Students who wish to gain further knowledge and practical experience in training and development may pursue an optional stream in this area. Upon successful completion of the Training and Development Stream, students may choose to pursue the Certified Training and Development Professional Designation (CTDP) offered through the Institute of Performance and Learning.
