Program Overview
With the Acting for Media two-year diploma program, you’ll learn everything you need to succeed as a screen actor. We’ll train you to be a professional actor or voice-over artist, whether you want to work in film, TV, online, games or interactive mediums.
Disclaimer: This program has expectations of professionalism, group work, intimacy between actors, whispering, consensual touching, combat training, expressions of physicality, deep exploration of self, personal-psychological examination, conflict and successful failure. This program is meant to train a student to be a professional actor, and it includes all of the aspects listed here.
Full Description
The Acting for Media two-year diploma program is your gateway to mastering the art of screen acting. Our comprehensive curriculum covers a range of skills, including acting technique, movement, voice and script analysis. You’ll learn to embody characters convincingly, refine your on-camera presence and navigate the etiquette and standards of auditioning.
As a graduate, you won’t just be a skilled actor – you’ll possess a deep understanding of the industry’s historical context, structure, hierarchy and professional standards. Through workshop simulations, on-camera exercises, voice-over demonstrations, green-screen training and motion-capture training, you’ll have all the essential skills you need to succeed in the field.
But we don't stop there – as the film landscape evolves, so does our program. You’ll explore emerging technologies like phonography and immersive environments, enhancing your readiness for the future of screen acting.
Student Selection
We’ve limited enrolment for this program so we can provide each student with the individual attention they need to excel. Admission is competitive and is based on the results of auditions and interview questions.
Note: you must achieve a minimum academic standing plus passing grades in acting to move on to the next semester.

Program Learning Outcomes
The graduate demonstrates the ability to:
- Present oneself for employment as a professional actor and provide services that meet professional industry standards and ethics.
- Create a character as intended by the writer through the study of screenplays, storyboards and commercial copy.
- Develop a believable character appropriate for the role and to the technological requirements of each recorded media discipline.
- Convey and sustain truth of character using relevant technical skills with appropriate emotional depth and clarity throughout the shooting of production.
- Work collaboratively with agents, casting directors, producers, directors and film crews.
- Develop and apply strategies for personal, career and professional development to enhance work performance and maintain currency within the industry.
- Employ improvisational skills for problem-solving and character development.
- Prepare materials that showcase his/her skills as both an actor and an entrepreneur.
- Perform the activity required for the character according to the recorded media.

Instructions on how to submit the questionnaire and audition will be provided to qualified applicants* during the application cycle.
*All applicants who meet the academic requirements will receive an audition appointment. Potential students are to present one monologue and one scene from pre-selected choices set out by the College. Both selections must be memorized. Please contact media@georgebrown.ca for the selection of scenes. Please include your George Brown student ID number.
** Mature student status (19 years of age or older and no OSSD)
Mature students may take the Admissions Assessment for English OR may consider upgrading to achieve the credit(s) needed in English.
Please note: students who start the program in January (winter term) will be required to attend classes during the summer months (May to August).
