George Brown College’s Theatre Arts program prides itself on developing and maintaining relationships with leading figures in the performing arts community in Toronto — many sit on our advisory committee. Established professionals work with George Brown to ensure our students receive training that prepares them for this ever-evolving industry.
"Of the younger actors at the Shaw [Festival], by far, the greatest number now come from the theatre program at George Brown," says Christopher Newton, Artistic Director Emeritus at the Shaw Festival.
Theatre writers and reviewers attend our season. Jon Kaplan, a longtime writer for NOW Magazine , has also come in to speak with students about the industry.
“What's exciting for me is that every two or three years, there's a new generation of theatre makers whose work I start to watch and usually continue to watch over the next decade or so, and a number of them have come out of George Brown,” Kaplan says.
Jon Kaplan passed away in the spring of 2017. We thank him for his 20 year interest, and commitment, to George Brown Theatre.
