Join free, skills-building groups offered by the Counselling & Student Well-being department.

What will you be doing during these groups?

Learn techniques to help you better manage your thoughts, behaviours, and emotions in a supportive community of other students.

How to join

To join these groups, book an intake appointment with a counsellor and let them know which group you're interested in. To request an appointment, either email letstalk@georgebrown.ca or book online through the Counselling Student Portal. Spaces are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Available Groups

Stress Management Workshops

Learn about stress, its impacts, and practical skills to help you better manage it.

Join anytime, and attend as many weeks as you can. Topics include Stress and the Brain; Self Care; Stress and Our Thoughts; Perfectionism and Procrastination; Imposter Phenomenon; and Social Health, Isolation, and Stress. 

Dates: Mondays, from September 23 to November 4, 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Mindfulness Skills & Healthy Thinking Group

Learn skills to reduce stress, overwhelm or anxiety, to find more calm inside, be kinder to yourself and to experience greater well-being.

We will practice different forms of mindfulness in this group. No prior experience with mindfulness is needed to participate. Join anytime, attend as many weeks as you can. 

Dates: Fridays, from September 27 to November 1, 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.

Sharing Circle

Sharing circles provide space for individuals to come together, share their experiences, and connect. Recognizing the often complex landscapes students navigate, we offer safer and braver spaces for exploring and navigating challenging realities. Sharing circles are an opportunity for personal growth and community building.

Dates: Tuesdays, Oct 1, 8, 15 & Nov 5, 12. 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Healthy Emotions Group

Learn mindfulness and distress tolerance techniques to help you deal with stress, difficult emotions, depression and anxiety, impulse control issues, addictions and excessive behaviours.   

It’s important to be able to attend all sessions. 

Dates: Thursdays, from October 3 to 31, 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Location: In person (St. James Campus)  

Changing Behaviours Group

Learn techniques to help you better manage your behaviours, thoughts and emotions.

It’s important to be able to attend all sessions.

Dates: Wednesdays, from October 9 to November 6, 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Location: Online through Zoom

The Inner Well Group: Connecting with the Embodied Self

This group is designed to create a space for students to reconnect with themselves, learn body-based skills to reduce stress, become more aware of their body's wisdom and emotions to understand themselves better and feel rejuvenated.

The group uses therapeutic dance and mindful movement. No prior movement or dance experience is needed to participate. The group aims to create a supportive and non-judgemental community where every student can be as they are.

It’s important to be able to attend all sessions, but students can join up until October 17.

Dates: Thursdays, October 10 to November 7, 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Changing Thoughts Group: Improve Depression, Anxiety or Self-Criticism

Learn techniques to help you better manage your thoughts, behaviours, and emotions to improve depression, anxiety and self-criticism.

It’s important to be able to attend all sessions. 

Dates: Wednesdays, from November 6 to December 4, 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Location: Online through Zoom  

Healthy Relationships Group

Learn interpersonal effectiveness and emotion regulation techniques to help you deal with stress, difficult emotions, depression and anxiety, impulse control issues, addictions and excessive behaviours. 

It’s important to be able to attend all sessions. 

Dates: Thursdays, from November 7 to 28, 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Location: In person (St. James Campus)

The Inner Well Group: Connecting with the Embodied Self (VIRTUAL)

This group is designed to create a space for students to reconnect with themselves, learn body-based skills to reduce stress, become more aware of their body's wisdom and emotions to understand themselves better and feel rejuvenated.

Student Food Access and Empowerment Group

This group is a safe and inclusive space to learn about accessing food resources and connecting with the college community. Students will have the opportunity to discuss how food contributes to physical health and emotional well-being.
