School of Dental Health

In addition to classroom instruction, students at the School of Dental Health work in the George Brown College dental clinic. The school provides a unique opportunity to work alongside practicing dental professionals; students provide direct client care while learning. There are also field placements at clinics and dental offices throughout the Greater Toronto Area, giving students hands-on experience in providing dental services to real patients.

School of Health and Wellness

The learning environments chosen to support the unique learning needs of each of the programs offered by the School of Health and Wellness are carefully selected to help our students build confidence as they become more familiar with their newly learned skills. By leveraging our broad network of industry partners, our students have access to the real-world environments where they will ultimately work. For example, students from our Behaviour Science programs get hands-on experience across diverse settings, including school boards, private clinics and community services through our many partners. Those studying Orthotics and Prosthetics learn to use specialized equipment in our labs located at one of Ontario’s most prominent hospitals - Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Prior to doing an off-site field placement with an approved hearing clinic, students in our Hearing Instrument specialist program have access to our onsite WAVE Hearing Clinic where they learn to use combine industry-specific technology while developing the soft-skills they need to work with clients. And finally, students in our Recreation Management in Gerontology program learn to apply the classroom skills they have learned offsite a variety of community-based partners who operate programs specifically designed for older adults. While these are just a few examples of the learning environments, we remain committed to providing a robust learning experience for our students.

School of Health Services Management

The programs in our School of Health Services Management prepare students to become key administrative members of a health-care team. Students in our Office Administration - Health Services program spend time offsite with a health-care partner where they practice the various technical and time-management skills they have learned in class. Dental Office Administration students participate in an off-site field placement at a dental office where they participate in the day-to-day operations of that dental practice. Students in our accredited Health Information Management program spend a significant amount of time at a partner office where they work with health information specialists on real client records (both electronic and paper), applying their academic learning about privacy and medical terminology in a practical, clinical setting. These placement opportunities reinforce the essential role that these future health-care administrators will play upon graduation.
