Program Details

The Student Locker Services program provides George Brown College students with a place to store their belongings while attending their classes and labs. When submitting a locker rental request, the requestor agrees to the terms of the agreement and regulations as outlined below.

Eligibility and Locker Assignment

Full-time students enrolled in a George Brown College program are eligible to rent a locker. Lockers are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis at the start of each semester. Student Locker Services endeavors to provide students with a locker that is in their primary area of study. The College reserves the right to suspend access to a student’s locker eligibility.

Online registration will open five business days prior to the start of the semester, unless otherwise specified for an academic program. Access to the online registration system will close two months after the start of the semester.

Rental Period and Fees

The locker rental period aligns with the College’s academic semesters (Fall, Winter, Spring/Summer). Eligible students can rent a locker for one, two, or three consecutive semesters. Students are expected to vacate their locker at the end of their rental period so that the locker can be cleaned, repaired, and reassigned. Student Locker Services must provide approval for students wishing to extend their rental periods. Failure to seek such approval will be deemed unauthorized locker use.

The cost to rent a locker is $25.00 per term. The locker holder is responsible for any internal damage to the locker, including excess cleaning requirements, failure to vacate, damage to locker infrastructure, and any other damage deemed intentional.

If a student has withdrawn from their program and has additional terms on their rental, they can request a refund on the remainder of terms by contacting Student Locker Services. Refunds are subject to a $5.00 administrative fee and can be issued within the first ten business days of the current term.

Lockers that are not vacated at the end of the rental term will have their lock removed and items stored. Contents will be stored for ten business days, after which they will be donated or disposed of. Student Locker Services is neither responsible for any items that go missing after their removal from a locker, nor for any items that are left unclaimed for more than ten business days.

Locker Access

All lockers are equipped with a high-quality combination lock. Students are required to use the combination lock that was issued with the locker. Students are not permitted to use their own lock. Any lockers using their own lock are subject to lock removal.

Upon successfully reserving a locker, students will receive a confirmation email with details about their locker location and lock combination. Should a student be unable to access this email, details on how to access locker information can be found on the Student Locker Services website.

The College reserves the right to access lockers at its sole discretion if there is a suspected security risk or an environmental concern such as pest control or odours. Public Safety & Security has the right to enter a locker at any time should they suspect it contains items that put the campus in danger. Any criminal activity will be reported to police. The College is required to provide police with access in the event of a criminal investigation.

If a student requires support to access their locker, Student Locker Services can assist during regular hours of operation. For after-hours emergency support, students can contact Public Safety & Security. Lockers will only be opened during the after-hours period in emergency situations, with proper identification, and with the locker registration confirmation email. A $25.00 access support fee may be charged if the access request is not related to a mechanical issue with the lock or locker.

Unauthorized Locker Use

Students who take possession of a locker without first renting it through Student Locker Services will be subject to their lock being cut and items being removed without notice. Students who are no longer enrolled in a full-time program are no longer entitled to the use of the rented locker unless approved by Student Locker Services.

Once a lock has been cut, all contents will be put in storage for students to reclaim. Proof of ownership must be shown to retrieve belongings. Contents will be stored for ten business days, after which they will be donated or disposed of. Student Locker Services is neither responsible for any items that go missing after their removal from a locker, nor for any items that are left unclaimed for more than ten business days.

Student Locker Services does not permit the sharing of lockers. Only one student can be registered to a locker.

Vandalism and Theft

Any students caught vandalizing lockers will be subject to the current disciplinary policies set forth in the Student Discipline Policy and may be reported to police.

Student Locker Services is not responsible for any items stored in your locker. You are responsible for your belongings. The use of lockers is at your own risk and George Brown College assumes no liability for any items stored in lockers. Student are urged to exercise caution and not store items of high value in your locker, such as purses, wallets, laptops, cameras or music players. Never store important items overnight. Locker combinations should not be shared, and caution should be taken when opening a locker to ensure no one is able to see the combination that is being entered.

Maintenance Period

Student Locker Services is required to perform maintenance throughout the year on student lockers. Students who are renting their locker for more than one term should anticipate maintenance to occur between semesters. Student Locker Services will send notice via email two weeks before the end of a semester to notify students of any planned maintenance. Students are required to empty their locker between semesters to ensure maintenance can occur.
