What motivated you to return to George Brown College (GBC)?
"Through internships, I discovered my passion for event management and knew I needed more specialized training to pursue this field. At the time, GBC didn't offer a specific event management program, but the Sports and Event Marketing postgraduate certificate provided practical, hands-on learning that aligned with my career goals."
What achievements and outcomes resulted from returning to GBC?
"My first career role came through the charity we worked with during our event planning project in the postgrad program. Seven months after graduating, they reached out with a newly created role. The practical experience I gained at GBC allowed me to plan their first gala fundraiser, which was a resounding success. It was a proud moment to realize how much my skills were valued, especially since my supervisor had little experience in event planning."
How did your GBC experience shape your success?
"The Sport and Event Marketing Program was pivotal in helping me secure a quality role post-graduation. The volunteer opportunities and practical experiences gave me the edge I needed to stand out in the job market. The certificate allowed me to focus on key areas like project management, sponsorship planning, and event marketing. Today, as Manager of Events at the Retail Council of Canada, I’m producing conferences and overseeing event management, combining creativity with project execution—work I hadn’t imagined when I was a student."
