In December 2024, George Brown College (GBC) achieved the Advocate Level of the Green Will Initiative (GWI) Program, recognizing its leadership in reducing emissions and promoting energy efficiency in Toronto. The GWI unites building owners across the city to collaborate on sustainability efforts, and GBC’s participation underscores its commitment to advancing better energy management practices.
Members of the GWI, including GBC, are making significant strides toward a greener future, contributing to the reduction of carbon footprints, and encouraging energy-saving practices that are essential for decarbonizing Toronto’s built environment. As part of its Advocate Level qualification, GBC shared building performance data and engaged in an Energy Treasure Hunt with the GWI and its members to identify potential opportunities to reduce energy consumption.
GBC’s participation in the Green Will Initiative reflects its ongoing dedication to sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of its facilities. GBC representatives Michelle McCollum, VP, Facilities and Sustainability, and Mary Livera Ranaweera, Director, Sustainability recently attended the GWI 2024 Collaboration Series, an event celebrating GWI's founding members and highlighting Toronto Hydro’s infrastructure investments aimed at improving grid reliability and supporting electrification. The GWI Advocate Level recognition marks a proud achievement in advancing George Brown College and Toronto’s shared goals for a greener, more energy-efficient future.
