Are you an internationally- trained professional looking to re-establish your career in Canada? The Career Renewal for Newcomers (ReNEW) Program equips newcomers with career readiness skills to set them up for success in the Canadian workforce. The 10-week part-time program is delivered in a hybrid mode that combines both in-person and online classes. 

Through faculty-led in-person as well as live online learning and industry and community partner-led workshops, newcomers will develop career knowledge and skills, gain Canadian financial literacy training, build social and professional networks, receive community referrals, and create a tailored action plan for their career pathway.

Flexible learning

The 10-week ReNew program includes one day of in-class learning at St. James Campus and four days of synchronous (real-time) and asynchronous online learning.  

  • In-person classes are held at our School of English as a Second Language at 341 King St. E. (building H, St. James Campus) 
  • Online classes are delivered on Brightspace D2L and Zoom. 
Program Requirements: 
  • Access to a computer and the internet  
  • A microphone for using computer audio 
  • A working webcam 
  • Microsoft 365 (license provided by the college) 
  • Zoom or Teams (license provided by the college) 
  • LinkedIn Profile 
  • All required learning materials are provided for students on the Learning Management System

    Admission Requirements

    • Minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 in each section
      or
      Minimum IELTS Academic overall test score of 5.5, in addition to a minimum test score of 5.5 in each of the Writing and Speaking sections
      or
      Completion of Level 6 of the English for Academic Purposes (EAP R105) program or placement into Level 7 of the EAP R105 program at GBC between January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024 (Applicable for Winter 2025 intake only).
    • Permanent Resident, Convention Refugee/Protected Person, Recent Canadian Citizen (within 5 years), Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) Visa Holder, or MOME2023 Visa Holder
    • Post-secondary education credential earned outside Canada 
    • Minimum (2) years of previous work experience outside of Canada 
    • Participants must commit to the full 10-week program, including all in-person and online sessions
