In the two-year Film Production – Directing for Extended Reality (P114) program, students develop the skills necessary to excel as directors across diverse platforms, including film, TV, streaming, advertising and social media, spanning traditional, digital and virtual production landscapes. Students learn to effectively direct actors and collaborate with a range of professionals to bring a creative vision to life.
Students delve into LED wall technology to understand the underlying systems and master pre-production methods essential for effective LED wall filming. The curriculum ensures that graduates are proficient in executing a comprehensive vision for both virtual sets and live-action characters, translating concepts or scripts into compelling video content suitable for virtual and traditional productions.
Additionally, graduates will possess the capability to seamlessly integrate new production methods with traditional pipelines. This includes proficiency with cutting-edge technologies like the Unreal Engine software, specifically applied within LED walls and volumes. This holistic approach equips students to navigate and contribute to the evolving landscape of film and media production.

You'll need to have access to a personal computer with the following minimum specifications:
- Apple M3 chip with 8-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine (or Windows-based equivalent)
- 8GB unified memory
- 512GB SSD storage
- 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display²

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:
- Create and direct independent digital film projects according to project specifications using various production techniques.
- Work collaboratively as a member of a digital and extended reality film production team to produce projects that meet industry requirements.
- Manage the production pipeline of digital and extended reality film productions to meet schedule and budget specifications.
- Capture quality moving images using appropriate camera/lighting equipment and techniques.
- Develop a short film and virtual production portfolio to showcase digital and extended reality filmmaking skills.
- Write story-driven, visual and cinematic scripts using various storytelling techniques with effective dialogue, structure, and character development.
- Record and mix multi-track sound in a digital format using industry-standard equipment and software.
- Market and distribute digital film projects using industry and new media outlets.
- Edit digital video using non-linear, industry-standard software and equipment for video and extended reality projects
- Create virtual environments incorporating technical principles and 3D assets to meet pre-production requirements.
- Communicate artistic vision using storyboarding techniques to achieve pre-production requirements for digital and extended reality projects.
