Program Overview
This program is eligible for an entrance scholarship.
Designed in collaboration with employers, the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario and the FP Canada, the Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Financial Services) is a four-year business degree program that prepares you to succeed in today’s financial services industry. After completion of the first year, students can choose to specialize in either Accounting or Financial Planning. Upon completing this degree, students will be eligible to enter professional programs and earn designations to work as professional accountants, financial planners and pursue other related exciting careers.

Our Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Financial Services) program will help you succeed in your career by giving you skills, knowledge and real-world experience. With network-ready wireless classrooms and study areas, you will love learning in our state-of-the-art facility. You will learn about accounting, investment management, corporate finance, banking, business administration and financial planning theory, as well as how to apply it. And to top it off, our field education partners will give you valuable work-integrated learning experience (no less than 14 weeks of full-time equivalent work) that is sure to impress potential employers.

Work Experience
The Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Financial Services) degree includes work experience term(s) that amounts to no less than 14 weeks of full-time equivalent work (420 hours), either in one block or in multiple cumulative blocks appropriate to achieving the learning outcomes.
The work experience term usually occurs between your sixth and seventh semesters if taken in one block, and all 420 hours must be completed before the seventh semester. This work experience provides you with the practical experience employers value. Organizations in the following categories are engaged as field education partners for the Financial Services degree:
- financial institutions
- accounting and accounting-related organizations
- small businesses
- not-for-profit organizations
- government offices
- major corporations
George Brown works with employers and industry partners to identify potential work experience opportunities. Students are also strongly encouraged to pursue self-directed industry work experience opportunities they believe will provide the learning experiences they value and meet the learning outcomes of the program. This valuable work experience can, in turn, be added to your resumé.

The B302 Accounting major is accredited by Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) of Ontario as meeting the CPA Preparatory (PREP) requirements. Graduates of the Accounting major may be eligible for admission into the CPA Professional Education (PEP)* program. Find additional information regarding admission requirements, including GPA.

The B302 Financial Planning program is an FP Canada approved core and advanced education program and completes the core and advanced curriculum required to take the CFP®* examination.

Graduates of this program may wish to pursue the following additional credentials or certifications in the financial services sector:
- Qualified Associate Financial Planner (QAFP®) may be obtained through FP Canada. B302 Financial Planning program completes the core curriculum required by FP Canada to earn the QAFP® credential
- Canadian Securities Course I and II(CSC I and CSCII ) may be obtained through the Canadian Securities Institute.
- Life License Qualification Program (LLQP) course may be obtained through approved providers as listed on Life Licence Qualification Program (LLQP) | Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (fsrao.ca) . This is followed by the provincial licensing exam.
*Note: The requirements for each designation/certification are set by the granting body, not George Brown College. This includes the CPA and the CFP®. In order to qualify for any of these designations/certifications, you need to follow the process listed on its website and meet all the requirements applicable to you.

The program (Financial Planning specialization) teaches the curriculum required to prepare to write industry-credentialing exams. These include:
- Canadian Securities Course I and II (CSC I and CSC II)

- Life License Qualification Program (LLQP).

Admission Requirements
Applicants are selected on the basis of their academic achievement, including the required courses, and any other selection criteria outlined below.
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma with six grade 12 University (U) or University/College (M) courses including: grade 12 (U) English and grade 12 (U) Mathematics.
- A grade of at least 60 per cent in all prerequisite courses (English and Math).
- An overall average of 65 per cent in six grade 12 (U) or (M) courses.
- Recommended courses: basic computer software applications and Mathematics of Data Management (MDM4U).
OR
Mature Student status (19 years of age or older and no OSSD)**
- grade 12 (U) English and grade 12 (U) Mathematics are required
- grade of 65 per cent or higher in English and 65 per cent or higher in Math
- Post-secondary courses in English and Mathematics will be considered (certain courses only)
** There is no mature student testing in the required grade 12 university (U-level) credits for degree programs. Mature applicants must have the English and Math credits required.

Program Learning Outcomes
The graduate demonstrates the ability to:

The program (Financial Planning specialization) teaches the curriculum required to prepare to write industry-credentialing exams. These include:
- Canadian Securities Course I and II (CSC I and CSC II)
- Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) Exam or the Qualified Associate Financial Planner (QAFP®) Exam
- Life License Qualification Program (LLQP)
- an approved LLQP training course
- LLQP provincial examination

Admission Requirements
Applicants are selected on the basis of their academic achievement, including the required courses, and any other selection criteria outlined below.
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma with six grade 12 University (U) or University/College (M) courses including: grade 12 (U) English and grade 12 (U) Mathematics.
- A grade of at least 60 per cent in all prerequisite courses (English and Math).
- An overall average of 65 per cent in six grade 12 (U) or (M) courses.
- Recommended courses: basic computer software applications and Mathematics of Data Management (MDM4U).
OR
Mature student status (19 years of age or older and no OSSD)**
- grade 12 (U) English and grade 12 (U) Mathematics are required
- grade of 65 per cent or higher in English and 65 per cent or higher in Math
- Post-secondary courses in English and Mathematics will be considered (certain courses only)
** There is no mature student testing in the required grade 12 university (U-level) credits for degree programs. Mature applicants must have the English and Math credits required.

English language proficiency:
- George Brown College ESL Level 9; TOEFL 84 overall and 21 in each skill band (online); IELTS 6.5 overall and 6.0 in each skill band; MELAB 85; CAEL overall 70 (writing 60)
