Get international work experience

George Brown students have the opportunity to complete work-integrated learning abroad! This means you’ll get to learn by doing but in an international setting. Having global work experience will make you even more desirable as a potential candidate and positively affect your resume and prospective career.

Getting Started and How to Apply

  • Confirm your eligibility for a Self-Directed Global WIL
    • GBC students (domestic and international) need the proper authorization to legally work overseas.
    • Plan to apply for the proper work authorization (visa) at least three months in advance of travel and only once your division has approved your self-directed Global WIL. To learn more about the approval process for your self-directed Global WIL, speak to your WIL Coordinator.
    • If you are an international student looking to do a Global WIL, consult an International Student Advisor to see what the implications are from an immigration perspective.
  • Attend a Global Learning Info Session to learn more.
  • Review the application timelines. Students interested in applying for a Self-Directed Global WIL should begin the approval process at least 8 months before their placement starts.
  • How to Apply:
    • Secure an international employer who wishes to sponsor you as a trainee or employee.
    • Send the job description of the externship position and the offer letter from the employer that outlines the hours and compensation to your WIL coordinator.
    • Once your Global WIL has been reviewed by your WIL coordinator, submit the self-directed Global WIL form to the Associate Dean for final approval.
