Non-Full Time Faculty – Interior Design Program

George Brown College is seeking non-fulltime/contract faculty for the 2024-2025 academic year to teach in our Interior Design Program.

Job Title: Accessibility Coordinator, Congress

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Academic Convenor and Project Director, the Accessibility Coordinator will provide support to the Congress Organizing team by leading the creation and delivery of an Accessibility Guide as part of the overall accessibility strategy, as well as being the contact for accommodation requests for attendees at Congress 2025. 

Responsibilities:

  • The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of digital accessibility including the suite of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and accessible conference planning
  • Lead the development and delivery of a Congress Accessibility Guide to be used by all attendees and organizers
  • Organize and chair an Accessibility Working Group to ensure accessibility initiatives are implemented and coordinated throughout the delivery of the conference.
  • Collaborate with diverse Congress participants, e.g., organizers, academic associations, attendees, and presenters to integrate accessibility throughout Congress planning, delivery and evaluation
  • Create and implement accessibility criteria and guidelines in Congress planning process
  • Compile accessibility criteria, tip sheets and resources for congress organizers and presenters
  • advocate and promote awareness and understanding of accessibility issues to arrive at collaborative solutions.
  • Develop and report on performance indicators, measurement for success, participant feedback mechanism, and Congress legacy for GBC
  • Organize and lead training sessions or workshops to educate teams about accessibility standards and best practices
  • Liaise with a variety of clients and staff across the College for any Congress-related inquiries, including requests for accommodations from attendees
  • Maintain Congress contacts and establish new ones; works independently with external and internal clients to establish contacts and/or resolve issues pertaining to the smooth functioning of the Congress. Provides benchmark and statistical data as required by different institutions and organizations.

Qualifications:

  • Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in fields such as Disability Studies, Occupational Therapy, Public Health, Humanities or Social Sciences, or equivalent.
  • Minimum four (4) years’ progressive and practical experience in an academic/professional, diverse and highly dynamic customer service-oriented environment supporting students, instructors and/or senior managers in the area of accessibility, disability justice and diversity, equity and inclusion. 
  • Industry-recognized certifications like Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC), Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS), or similar credentials is preferred
  • Experience in preparing a variety of correspondence, tip sheets, presentations and reports, and in scheduling meetings and activities.  
  • Experience in working effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience with GBC policies, procedures, and processes is preferred.

Skills and Attributes:

Understanding of Diverse Disabilities

  • A deep understanding of the diverse range of disabilities (e.g., mobility, vision, hearing, cognitive, neurodiversity) and the various accommodations needed to support different attendees.

Professional Experience

  • Proven experience in organizing or consulting on accessibility procedures for large conferences, trade shows, or public events. This includes ensuring compliance with relevant laws, such as the AODA or international standards (e.g., WCAG).
  • Experience conducting audits of venues, digital content, and materials for accessibility compliance.
  • Proven ability to integrate accessibility into the planning process, ensuring that all aspects of the event—such as signage, transportation, website content, and mobile apps—are accessible. Experience with hybrid events is highly preferred to ensure both remote and in-person participation is accessible.

Technical Skills

  • Familiarity with various assistive technologies such as screen readers, captioning software, hearing aids, braille displays, and speech recognition tools.
  • Ability to assess and provide recommendations for accessible website design, online registration systems, mobile apps, event platforms, and virtual environments.

Event Accessibility Planning

  • Ability to assess and recommend improvements to physical venues, including the layout, signage, and seating arrangements, to ensure they are accessible to attendees with various disabilities.
  • Expertise in planning for accessible transportation, parking, food services, and restrooms at the event site.
  • Ability to ensure that all event communications (written, visual, and audio) are accessible, including providing captioning, sign language interpreters, or alternative formats for presentations and materials.

Problem-Solving & Adaptability

  • Ability to address unexpected accessibility challenges as they arise during an event and provide on-the-spot solutions.
  • Adaptability to changing circumstances or needs, especially with last-minute requests for accommodation or accessibility needs.

Temporary Food Service Worker

Job Title: Temporary Food Service Worker

Position Summary:
To oversee the day to day running of the kitchen, to ensure that meals are delivered to the individual program rooms on time, maintain regular contact with the caterer, ensure that the kitchen is cleaned on a daily basis is accordance to Public Health, order items to ensure enough stock is on hand for extra food/snacks, staying on top of food recalls and maintain daily communication with educators to record allergies and/or food restrictions.

Responsibilities:

  • Unpacks and distributes all food containers from caterer and get ready for next day pick up. 
  • Organizes, prepares and sets up for morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack; checks allergy list and place appropriate food / milk substitutions for individual children on room trays; takes temperature of food prior to serving into serving dishes; cover food with lid or wrap; store food in appropriate bins.
  • Checks food received in delivery bin from Caterer and checks temp and document; label and date food; rotate stock; check for spoilage. 
  • Documents actions on monthly record sheets; ensures that appropriate menus are posted for parents and staff referral; checks with manager to ensure that Food Restrictions are up-to-date and posted in kitchen and playrooms.
  • Maintains all appliances including the dishwasher, freezer, fridge, oven and stove by cleaning and completing all applicable tasks related to each appliance.
  • Cleans, disinfects and wipes counter tops/shelves/pantry/bins/sinks/service trolleys.
  • Flushes all water taps for five minutes; submits flush and temperature logs to office. 
  • Maintains floors by sweeping and washing.
  • Provides support to the staff and program by transferring laundry from washer to dryer; assists with “sleep time and other routines when needed.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Secondary School completion or equivalency.
  • Food Service Worker Certificate (preference) or several completed courses from certificate in progress, along with successful completion of the Food Handler’s course and Safety awareness. 
  • One-year minimum experience working in a busy food service environment preferably in a health or service industry.
  • Fundamental knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS.
  • Must have health assessment and immunization as required by the Ministry of Education including the Covid Vaccinations.
  • First aid certificate and Clear Criminal Record Check are required.
  • Job duties require recurring periods of moderate physical effort and periods of moderate lifting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment following established policies and procedures; willingness to learn and accept direction; must be able to be very job focused and have attention to detail.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and display good judgment and have excellent problem-solving skills. 
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision; strong time-management skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated commitment in delivering excellent service to others as this is key in supporting the success of our students and our College.

  • Effective ability to interact with others and deal with situations in ways that respect diverse backgrounds, experience, and styles.
