Biography

Karen has been a faculty member of George Brown College since 2009 and has over 30 years of experience in marketing and leading advanced business analytics and customer insights teams. Karen enjoys bringing real world experiences to the classroom bringing business leaders to speak to the class and using real businesses for class assignments.

Karen loves data and looking for customer insights to drive actionable decisions that deliver measurable bottom-line results which is the focus of her consulting projects. Most recently completed Roadmap for Digitalization of Museums in Ontario (partners Ontario Museum Association and Toronto History Museum and funded by NSERC). Some other research projects at George Brown College include the Mental Wellbeing of International Students in downtown Toronto colleges, George Brown College Centre for Business Student Retention study, Sustainability Practices of Coffee Pod manufacturers, Gamification to Reduce Math Anxiety, Barriers to Intentions to Study Abroad and the Effect of Employment on Student Success.

Karen’s industry experiences include financial services, retail, not-for-profit and technology at TD Bank and American Express. She has had functional roles ranging from product management, marketing, customer strategy and segmentation, automated marketing decision making, customer information management, database design, marketing research, modelling and marketing dashboard reporting.

As a professor at George Brown College, Karen has developed several online and traditional courses and research in the area of student retention and success. She enjoys coaching students for case competitions including the OCMC and was also a faculty adviser to the CMA Gold Winner for Student Awards Marketing Case in 2014.
Karen is active in the community with numerous volunteer roles including Board Chair Waterfront Neighbourhood Centre, Board Member at Toronto Railway Museum with previous board and volunteer roles at Rexdale Women’s Centre and Harbourfront Centre.
