Biography
Amir Shabani is currently NSERC’s Industrial Chair for Colleges (IRCC) in Smart Connected Buildings where his research team is collaborating on several applied research projects with multiple industry partners on the product development and validation of intelligent building/home automation technologies and systems.
Amir joined School of Engineering Technologies at George Brown College in September 2013. He taught courses in the Mechatronics (Electromechanical) Engineering field, including PLC-Programmable Logic Controller (Omron, Allen Bradley), Electro-pneumatic Systems, Motors and Controls, and Electronic Devices.
Amir received his PhD from Systems Design Engineering Department at the University of Waterloo, Canada, with the focus on time-series data analytics. He has extensive R&D experience in hardware and software design for advanced automation systems. He worked as hardware design engineer in electronics industry before moving to automotive industry. As Control and Instrumentation Engineer in job-sharing projects with international companies, he worked on multi-million-dollar automation projects for design and commissioning of new production lines at a car manufacturing plant
