United Way Greater Toronto has recognized George Brown College (GBC) as a Local Leader for its outstanding fundraising efforts in 2024. The college community exceeded its ambitious target of $100,000, contributing essential funds to support United Way's network of over 300 social service organizations throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
"We are humbled to be part of this special community of supporters working to fight poverty and provide essential support to those in need," said Michael Herrera, Senior Vice-President, Institutional Planning & Chief Financial Officer and 2024 campaign co-chair. The funds raised will help support agencies that provide essential services, including food, shelter, employment assistance, and mental health support throughout the region.
The successful campaign featured numerous college-wide fundraising activities, including the annual Pancake Brunches, a CN Tower climb, department raffles, bake sales, and specialty sales that brought our community together. Campaign co-chairs Michael Herrera, Janene Christiansen, Rudi Fischbacher, and Mona Modaresi led the initiative with enthusiasm and care, supported by committee members and volunteers throughout the college.
This recognition reflects George Brown College's strong commitment to the communities it serves across Toronto, Peel and York Region, demonstrating how collective action can lead to meaningful change for those facing challenges in the region.
