We are thrilled to be once again offering our students and employees the opportunity to learn and engage during this annual, month-long celebration.
The Canadian mosaic is enriched and comprised of various communities. The recognition and celebration of each community allow us to understand the richness of our shared inheritance and companionship reflected here at George Brown College.
The first Black Futures event of 2025, Roots and Recipes, showcases one of this year’s central themes: the concept of “reworlding.” Reworlding is the reconstruction and reimagining of our social realities and the collective actions we take to break free from colonial and oppressive narratives. By sharing the food and drink — the roots and recipes — of Africa, the Caribbean and the larger diaspora, we are broadening our own culinary and cultural perspectives.
"Black Futures Month is a time to honour Black communities’ enduring contributions and struggles while boldly envisioning a future grounded in justice, freedom, and belonging,” said Mary Ola, Senior Manager of Black Futures. “This year, we introduce new Black Futures Month branding, featuring the Adinkra symbol Epa, representing the rejection of slavery and colonialism and our unwavering commitment to breaking the chains of injustice.”
“We continue to create spaces where our students, staff, and faculty feel a true sense of belonging, where their contributions shape the fabric of our institution and the future we are building together at George Brown College.”
