George Brown College (GBC) Chef School students earned top honours on the national stage, winning gold and silver medals at the 2024 Skills Canada Competition in Québec City on May 30 and 31.
Negus King from the Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Culinary Management) program won gold in the Cooking competition. Sabina Lee from the Baking and Pastry Arts Management program won silver in the Baking category.
In addition to his gold medal, Negus also received the Best of Region Award, which was presented to the top-performing competitor from each province. He was the highest-marked competitor from Team Ontario.
Both GBC competitors took home gold in the 2024 Skills Ontario competition in Toronto on May 6 and 7 — wins that allowed them to compete at the Skills Canada National Competition.
Negus and Sabina will pass on their experiences to the next Skills competitors.
"We are so incredibly proud of Negus and Sabina. They demonstrated their skills at the highest level with remarkable poise, determination and artistry.
