Calandra visited the construction site of GBC’s mass-timber, net zero carbon emissions building on February 7. He was joined by wood industry leaders, including Ontario Forest Industries Association President and CEO Ian Dunn, Canadian Wood Council President and CEO Rick Jeffrey and WoodWorks Ontario Executive Director Steven Street.
Senior Vice-President of External Relations, Communications and Real Estate Development Joe Cressy, and Limberlost Place Project Director Nerys Rau, showcased the sustainable systems and materials that will enable the building to operate passively half of the year and make it a global model for mass-timber construction.
Limberlost Place is set to open in January 2025 and continues to earn national and international awards honours for its stunning and sustainable design.
The building attracts great interest among policy makers, with federal, provincial and municipal politicians eager to see the site. In December 2023, we hosted Ontario Natural Resources and Forestry Minister Graydon Smith. Federal ministers Jonathan Wilkinson and Seamus O’Regan have also toured the site.
