Minister Wilkinson tour June 16, 2022

Federal Minister of Natural Resources Jonathan Wilkinson got a first-hand look at how George Brown College is helping to transform Toronto’s eastern waterfront during a visit to the construction site of our net-zero carbon emissions building Limberlost Place.

On June 16, Joe Cressy, our new Senior Vice-President, External Relations, Communications and Real Estate Development proudly welcomed Minister Wilkinson to the site of our new building. Limberlost Place is poised to become the first institutional structure of its kind in Ontario and will serve as a model for mass-timber construction. It’s also a key part of George Brown College’s continued role in the revitalization and development of the East Bayfront area.

The Ministry of Natural Resources provided nearly $5 million in funding for the made-in-Canada project that is being constructed with nationally sourced mass-timber components.

Minister Wilkinson also met with Limberlost Place Project Director Nerys Rau; Luigi Ferrera, Dean of the Centre for Arts, Design and Information Technology and inaugural chair of the Brookfield Sustainability Institute at Limberlost Place; and Leslie Quinlan, Senior Vice-President, People Enablement and Experience.
