In this time of rapid change, George Brown College (GBC) is leading the way in educational excellence, preparing students to meet the demands and challenges of tomorrow. Those who choose to study at GBC receive an education that allows them to do more than just learn facts — it equips them with the practical expertise, technical and critical thinking skills highly sought after by top employers.
At the heart of the George Brown experience lies a deep commitment to experiential learning, where students become active participants in their own educational journeys. Students participate in hands-on projects and real-world problem solving opportunities with many of our 1,300 industry partners. The school also embeds connections to just-in-time learning opportunities informed through its program advisors committees. These are the cornerstones of the GBC approach to ensure graduates are career ready.
Dr. Eileen De Courcy, George Brown College’s Academic Vice-President, believes the college has a responsibility to prepare students to respond to the world's most challenging problems, and empower them to face these challenges head on.
“Our experiential and work-integrated learning opportunities prepare students to succeed in their chosen fields,” she said. “This includes a focus on essential employability skills, like collaboration, problem solving, and critical thinking. We are developing a talent pipeline of STEM and human services professionals that can hit the ground running in a highly competitive labour market.”
Immersive education beyond the traditional classroom
GBC’s commitment to future-proofing its students’ education goes far beyond the confines of the traditional classroom. The college designs spaces that simulate work environments so students have the context to understand how they’ll be applying their knowledge and skills in the future. Students get hands-on experience providing services to the public through a range of opportunities including:

Simulation Centre
The college has the first college, nursing school, and simulation centre in Canada accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). This cutting-edge facility offers nearly 24,000 square feet of dedicated simulation space.

The Chefs’ House
At the only student-run, fine dining restaurant in downtown Toronto, students from GBC’s hospitality and culinary arts programs work in tandem to create, prepare and serve gourmet meals.

GBC Child Care Centres
The college operates 13 lab school child care centres across Toronto that model the best practices it teaches in its classrooms. These serve over 1,000 children and their families each year.

LED Media Wall
Work with industry-leading technology, video effects (VFX) and backgrounds, like those seen on the popular Star Wars spinoff series The Mandalorian, as well as Star Trek: Discovery, which was shot in Toronto.

Orthotics & Prosthetics at Sunnybrook Hospital
Students learn how to design, fabricate and fit clients with braces and limbs to help restore mobility and body functionality.

WAVE Dental & Hearing Clinics
GBC students provide clinical services to the public under the supervision of qualified professionals. Each year, they treat over 3,400 clients for dental and hearing needs.
Offering students these types of rich learning environments is key to preparing them for the global market of tomorrow.
