In honor of Black History Month, startGBC, in partnership with the Black Futures Initiative (BFI) and the Black Student Success Network (BSSN), are proud to host a special event at George Brown College, spotlighting Black Entrepreneurs who are making waves in their respective industries. This event will celebrate successful business owners who are George Brown College alumni, showcasing their journeys from students to thriving entrepreneurs.
This event will also provide a platform for the alumni entrepreneurs to share their experiences, challenges, and triumphs, offering current students and aspiring business owners invaluable insights into navigating the world of entrepreneurship. Attendees will have the opportunity to network, gain insights, and learn about the resources available to support Black-owned businesses.
The achievements of these outstanding alumni are a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit fostered at startGBC and George Brown College and we are excited to highlight their success stories to inspire the next generation of black entrepreneurs and provide them with the knowledge and connections needed to turn their ideas into reality.
The event will feature a dynamic panel discussion with an incredible lineup of speakers:
Xavier Watson, owner of X-Posed Contracting, a trailblazing construction company redefining excellence in the industry.
Danielle Spencer, a recent Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree and founder of some creative agency, a powerhouse marketing firm making waves in branding and digital strategy.
Wangechi Mwaura, founder of The Sweet Safari, a Toronto-based bakery that takes customers on a journey through the rich, diverse flavors of African culture.
Godfrey Jonas, the visionary behind Owujupe, a revolutionary tech-driven organization empowering businesses, individuals, and communities through financial empowerment.
The event will be moderated by Susie Mensah from The Black Futures Initiative and the event will be hosted in their space at St. James Campus.
We are so excited to collaborate with BFI and BSSN to bring together a community that uplifts and supports Black entrepreneurs,” said Neal Lilliott, Manager of startGBC. "By fostering entrepreneurship, we create opportunities for long-term success and economic empowerment.”
George Brown College has a long-standing commitment to diversity, inclusion, and entrepreneurship. This event is part of a broader initiative to provide support, mentorship, and resources to Black students and alumni looking to build and grow their businesses.
