Meet Danielle Spencer, Founder & CEO, some creative agency. - startGBC November 2024 #WhyNotMe GBC Entrepreneur Spotlight

As we celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week at George Brown College, what better way to celebrate than to highlight an impressive GBC alumni entrepreneur, who started her current and former business interests whilst studying at George Brown College.  We had the pleasure to chat with Danielle and learn more about her entrepreneurial journey.

About Danielle and some creative agency.

My entrepreneurial journey started while I was in my first year at George Brown. My first business did $40 in revenues before I moved on after 6 months. I took a year off during my pregnancy and then restarted in my second year with a newborn and a new experience. In 2020 I started a business that did seven figures within a year. Most of my success in this growth I attribute to the creative liberties I found after becoming a mom, and the hands-on learning in various areas of business from GBC.

What made you want to become an entrepreneur?

Freedom. Growing up, my mom was an entrepreneur, and I saw how she could take time off when needed, create her own space for success, and learn how to make her life revolve around her and not the other way around.

Why did you create your business?

I stumbled into something I was decent at, and then got good at it, and then just kept going.

What successes have you enjoyed so far with building your company?

I'm very time-wealthy. If I need to take a day off to take care of my mental health or rewatch Bridgerton, I can. If one (or both) of my kids wants or needs to stay home from school, I don't have to request time from someone. I can grocery shop in the middle of a Thursday or run off to New York on a Monday because I can. I want to work at 11 p.m. instead of 11 a.m. if I so choose. I'm very very time-wealthy.

What is one piece of advice you would give to aspiring entrepreneurs?

The way you can solve your boss's problems, you can figure out your own. Start that business.
