A message from Dr. Gervan Fearon, President of George Brown College.
As 2024 comes to a close, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the dedication and innovation you all demonstrated this year. Together, we have accomplished so much — supporting students, celebrating milestones, and strengthening our reputation as a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive community. Your hard work and commitment to excellence continue to inspire me, and I could not be prouder of what we have achieved as a team.
The past year has presented significant challenges. It has been heartening how we have worked together to engage in dialogue and explore options through our town hall meetings and the work being done across the college. Early in the year, we established guiding principles that inform our choices and decisions ahead. Through it all, it is important for us to recognize and celebrate our many achievements in 2024, including awards recognizing our students, faculty and staff.
Year in Review at George Brown College
Looking Ahead
For the year ahead, it is important for us to maintain our optimism and commitment to our academic and career-oriented post-secondary educational mission. In 2025, we will celebrate the opening of Limberlost Place, a global model of sustainable construction that contributes to a better future and the viability of this emerging sector of the economy. It will also provide exciting new learning spaces designed to enhance our students’ well-being. Many alumni were directly employed as part of the team completing the Limberlost Place project.
George Brown will also be the first college to host Canada’s largest academic conference, the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences. I know the coming year will bring success in how we address our challenges and realize our opportunities.
Enjoying Time With Friends & Family
Before we usher in a new chapter, I hope you can rest, recharge and spend time with loved ones over this winter break.
Our next wellness day is Monday, December 23. This means the college will close after Friday, December 20, and reopen on Thursday, January 2, 2025, as we prepare to welcome new students for Winter Orientation.
Thank you to the dedicated employees who will be working throughout the break to keep our campuses operational and safe.
On behalf of the senior leadership team, thank you once again for all you do to make our college an extraordinary place to learn, work, and grow. We wish you and your loved ones a joyful and peaceful holiday season and a bright, prosperous new year.
I look forward to all we will accomplish together in 2025!
