For the second year in a row Villa Charities through its charitable arm, the Villa Charities Foundation, will support George Brown College students through the newly renamed Villa Charities Renzo Pillon Memorial Scholarship

Open to full-time second and third-year GBC Architectural Technology students, this award will grant four $2,500 scholarships to help students continue their education at the Centre for Construction and Engineering Technologies (CCET). It is a fitting tribute to Mr. Pillon, a Toronto-based Italian architect who not only made his mark at Villa Charities, but at George Brown College as a member of the Program Advisory Committee (PAC) for the Architectural Technology Program.

“Renzo’s life and career reflected his passion for people, community, and his heritage,” says Marco DeVuono, Acting President and CEO for Villa Charities Inc. “We are proud to renew our commitment to George Brown College, and to continue his legacy through to the next generation of architects.”

Dr. Cindy Gouveia, President of George Brown College Foundation, adds: “Villa Charities’ support of GBC last year greatly encouraged students through a challenging 2020. We are thankful to Villa Charities for their leadership and supporting our Architectural Technology students. We are honoured to facilitate this generous award in Renzo Pillon’s name.”

Jaclyn Kemp, a 2020 recipient of the Villa Charities Scholarship and GBC Architectural Technology student, says of her experience:

“It was an exciting opportunity to work on a research project that has a real-world impact on the Abruzzo region, where the model our team developed could be used for scientific analysis, educational purposes, as well as to promote tourism in the area.  The Villa Charities scholarship has helped me make professional connections within the industry, leading to future employment opportunities.”

HOW TO APPLY:

The Villa Charities Renzo Pillon Memorial Scholarship is open to full-time second and third-year students enrolled in George Brown College’s Architectural Technology program (T109/169), with a program GPA of 3.5 or higher. Students must also demonstrate passion for their field of study, as well as leadership qualities through various means, such as community service. Preference is given to students who demonstrate special interest in Italian heritage and culture as part of their program of study (including but not limited to) co-op/internship, and/or an applied research project.

Students can apply through the George Brown College’s Awards Office and complete their application on the Stu-View portal.
