The late Gary Lengyel's legacy will continue on and inspire others through the creation of the Cooking with Passion – Gary Lengyel Memorial Endowment fund. This fund was created in partnership by Peter Lengyel and the Guild Electric Charitable Foundation to support culinary students at George Brown College's Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts (CHCA).
Gary, an avid cook, became deeply interested in the culinary arts in his twenties. He enrolled in George Brown's Culinary School in 1978. Here he took his passion for food and wine to the next level, elevating his knowledge and repertoire in the industry. Although Gary continued to work professionally at Guild Electric, he always made time to share his love for food and wine with those around him.
Gary once said, "My very best times, and the crowning achievement of any Chef, is a room filled with family and good friends having just eaten a great meal!" It is with his passion for food in mind that Peter and the Guild Electric Charitable Foundation chose to establish the "Cooking with Passion – Gary Lengyel Endowment" in Gary's name.
Awards funded by this endowment will be available each year to full-time culinary arts students registered in one of the following programs: Culinary Arts, Italian program (H411), Culinary Management program (H100 and H116), Culinary Management Nutrition program (H119), Food and Nutrition management program (H402) or the Honours Bachelor of Commerce Culinary Management program (H315 and H316). Students must also demonstrate financial need and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, be involved in their community and exhibit passion and dedication to their program.
This academic year, an additional sum was provided to the College so that a deserving student could receive the Cooking with Passion – Gary Lengyel Memorial Scholarship at the 2018/2019 CHCA Award Ceremony on April 8th, 2019.

This investment in CHCA students will allow Gary to continue to inspire others just as he did in life. We are extremely grateful to Peter and the Guild Electric Charitable Foundation for this gift that will nurture and celebrate deserving students at the CHCA." said Lorraine Trotter, Dean of CHCA.
