A $30,000 gift from the Building Opportunities for Life Today (B.O.L.T.) Charitable Foundation will provide new scholarships for students at George Brown College’s Centre for Construction & Engineering Technologies (CCET).
An existing partner of George Brown, the B.O.L.T. Charitable Foundation was established by Tridel in 2009 and has supported students with entrance scholarships.
This year, ten B.O.L.T. Charitable Foundation Awards of $3,000 each will be given to 10 full-time students who demonstrate financial need and a passion for a career in the construction industry. Of these awards, three will be given out as entrance awards to new students.
“We are proud to continue our partnership with George Brown College with the establishment of new awards to assist students with the costs of their education,” says Tridel President Leo DelZotto.
“At B.O.L.T., we believe that all of today’s youth should receive the same opportunities to a career in construction, regardless of their financial situation,” says Joanne Bin, Executive Director of the B.O.L.T. Charitable Foundation. “We hope that through these scholarships, we can be a part of making that possible.”
On Jan. 23, 2017, B.O.L.T.’s donation was recognized with a cheque presentation at George Brown’s Casa Loma Campus. DelZotto, Bin and other representatives from Tridel and B.O.L.T. presented the cheque to George Brown College President Anne Sado, George Brown College Foundation President Cindy Gouveia and CCET Dean Adel Esayed.
“We thank B.O.L.T. for the amount of support we continue to receive for our construction students and this special tribute to the college’s 50th anniversary,” says Esayed. “Our partnership has been a very rewarding one and we look forward to continuing to make a meaningful impact in the lives of our students together.”
