At this time of the year, holiday cheer can be found all around us. However, with the holidays comes stress for many students who are struggling to stay on top of the most basic of necessities food.
For some George Brown College students, food insecurity, in addition to deadlines and exams, are real issues that negatively impact the holiday season. The Pinball Clemons Foundation offered a helping hand on December 13, distributing grocery gift cards at the Student Association Student Nutrition Access Program (formerly known as the food bank) at George Brown College’s St. James Campus.
Representatives from the Pinball Clemons Foundation and from George Brown were on hand to give out the cards at 200 King St. E, including Bianca Bertagnolio, Foundation Manager, Pinball Clemons Foundation; Jane Hilder, Development Coordinator, Pinball Clemons Foundation; Ian Wigglesworth,Interim Dean, Centre for Preparatory and Liberal Studies; Cindy Gouveia, President, George Brown College Foundation; Ronnie Cruz, Community Services Coordinator, Student Association of George Brown College; and Mercedes Burrowes, Director of Campus Life, Board of Directors, Student Association of George Brown College.
"The Pinball Clemons Foundation has long been a supporter of student success at George Brown College, through scholarships, bursaries and other partnership activities with the George Brown College Foundation," Bertagnolio said. "Today we are pleased to offer our support to students in need by way of these grocery gift cards."
The Pinball Clemons Foundation handed out $300 in gift cards to appreciative students.
"We thank the Pinball Clemons Foundation for their thoughts and actions today," Gouveia said, "and for their continued support to George Brown students."
