Bachelor of Digital Experience Design (G301)
Students must complete a 420-hour paid co-op work term in the spring/summer period between the third and fourth year.
Step 1: Attend your Professional Practice (BDES 3505) course in Semester 5 to ensure your resume, cover letter, and portfolio are up to industry standards.
Step 2: The School of Design will present next steps in the Professional Practice course, including timing and details of the student handbook.
Step 3a: Students submit their resumes and portfolios to Jane Weber (jweber@georgebrown.ca), who assists students in securing a paid Co-op role.
Step 3b: Alongside the efforts made by the Field Education Office (FEO) to secure a Co-op position, students are required to search for their own opportunities. Please Note: If a student declines a position arranged by the FEO, their only option moving forward will be to pursue self-directed Co-op.
Step 4a: Students who secure a Co-op curated by the FEO will receive Work Term Agreement forms. Forms must be signed by you and the employer prior to the start of your placement.
Step 4b: Students who secure a self-directed Co-op role must submit an employment offer and job description to Jane Weber (jweber@georgebrown.ca). If approved, student must complete the SoD Confirmed Co-op Placement Details form followed by the Work Term Agreement with the employer prior to the start of your placement.
Step 5: Contact the FEO to register for the Co-op course (GCOP 1001).
Step 6: Put your best foot forward at your co-op placement and contact the FEO for any questions or concerns.
Step 7: At the end of your Co-op:
- You will submit a final Reflection Assignment to Jane Weber (jweber@georgebrown.ca), which accounts for 50% of your final grade.
- The FEO will contact your employer to obtain the Employer Evaluation, which accounts for 50% of your final grade.
Bachelor of Brand Design (G304)

Design Management (G401)
Students must complete a 120-hour, part-time internship over an 8-week period in Semester 2. The Design Management Internship provides students with exposure to a Design Manager in a Canadian workplace.
Step 1: Attend your Design Business Communications (COMM 1152) course in Semester 1 to ensure your application package (resume, cover letter, and portfolio) meets industry standards. Your application package should be completed by October.
Step 2: Complete the Resume Prep Series set up by GBCareers, which includes an introduction to applying for design positions in Canada. Step 2 to be completed between September – October.
Step 3: Apply for Internship positions between October – January:
- The Field Education Office (FEO) solicits for internship opportunities amongst our top employers. Students will be invited for an interview depending on the needs of the employers. Please note: If a student declines a position arranged by the FEO, their only option moving forward will be to pursue self-directed internship (see below).
- Students are expected to conduct a self-directed job search alongside the efforts made by the FEO to secure work. Internships must align to the learning outcomes of the program — and be approved by the FEO.
Step 4: Once you have secured an internship, complete the following steps:
- Students who secure an internship through the FEO will receive the Student Handbook and Work Term Agreement forms. Forms must be signed by you and the employer prior to the start of your placement.
- Students who secure a self-directed internship must submit an employment offer and job description to Phuong Diep (phuong.diep@georgebrown.ca). If approved, student must complete the SoD Confirmed Field Placement Details form, the Student Handbook and Work Term Agreement with the employer prior to the start of your placement.
Step 5: Work Term Agreement forms will be sent to you upon confirmation of your placement details. Forms must be signed by you and the employer prior to the start of your placement.
Step 6: Put your best foot forward at your co-op placement, typically between March – May. You must adhere to the Field Education Student Conduct Guide during your placement. Contact the FEO for any questions or concerns.
Step 7: At the end of your Internship Placement:
- You will submit a final Reflection Assignment, which accounts for 50% of your final grade. To be completed in May.
- The FEO will contact your employer to obtain the Employer Evaluation, which accounts for 50% of your final grade.
Graphic Design (G102)
The optional Graphic Design Field Placement course (GRAF 3017) is offered in Semester 6. Students who secure a placement are expected to work a total of 120-hours over the course of the semester.
Important note: Students are only registered in the Field Placement course once a job has been secured. All students interested in Field Placement are required to select their top two elective choices for Semester 6. Once a position has been confirmed, one elective can be dropped for the Field Placement course.
Step 1: Attend your Professional Practice (GRAF 3014) course in Semester 5 to ensure your resume, cover letter, and portfolio are up to industry standards.
Step 2a: All students are encouraged to conduct a self-directed search in order to secure a work experience for the Field Placement course (INTR 3030) in Semester 6. However, only students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher by the end of Semester 4 will have access to a job board with postings from employers the Field Education Office (FEO) has recruited.
Students who are granted access to the job board are required to complete the following two steps:
- Terms & Conditions — read carefully to understand the Field Placement policies.
- Field Education Search — new job postings will be published regularly as they are received from employers. Students are responsible for checking GBCareers daily as postings expire within one to two weeks of publication.
Step 2b: Students are also expected to search for job opportunities on their own, in addition to applying for jobs posted on GBCareers.
Step 3: Once you have secured an internship, complete the following steps:

The optional Interaction Design Field Placement course (INTR 3030) is offered in Semester 6. Students who secure a placement are expected to work a total of 120-hours over the course of the semester.
Important note: Students are only permitted to switch from the Portfolio 2 (INTR 3006) course to Field Placement in Semester 6 once they have secured a work experience.

Web Development — Front-End Design (G418)
The optional Front-End Design Field Placement course (DESN 3043) is offered in Semester 3. Students who secure a placement are expected to work a total of 360-hours over the course of the semester.
Important note: When web registration opens on STU-VIEW for the third semester, students will pay a course fee of $500 and will be registered in the Work Integrated Project (DESN 3043) course. Students can only switch to the Field Placement course if a job is secured for Semester 3. Students are not required to pay any additional fees for the switch to Field Placement.
