Official Contest Rules

These Rules govern “Register and Attend the Fall 2024 Open House for an Opportunity to Win A $5000 Tuition Credit” Contest (the “Contest”). If you do not agree with each provision of these Rules, you may not participate in the Contest. If you are under the age of majority, your parent or legal guardian must have read, understood and agreed to be bound by these Rules and consent to your participation in the Contest.

  1. THE CONTEST: The Contest is held by George Brown College with offices at 200 King Street East, Toronto ON, M5A 3W8 (the “Sponsor”). The Contest begins at 12:01 a.m. (EST) September 26, 2024 (“Contest Starting Date”) and closes at 2:00 p.m. (EST) November 2, 2024 (“Contest Closing Date”). The period between the Contest Starting Date and the Contest Closing Date is the “Contest Period”.
  2. HOW TO ENTER: No purchase required. Limit of one (1) entry per person regardless of the method of entry. If you enter more than once, all additional entries will be disqualified. To enter, during the Contest Period, register for the Fall Open House at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/george-brown-college-fall-open-house-tickets-1020590542787 and completely fill out the online form (by entering your name, email address, telephone number; indicating whether you are a domestic or an international student; selecting your area of interest, any accommodation requirements; and then selecting ‘Register’), and attend the Fall Open House in person on November 2, 2024. Attendance will be confirmed by the Sponsor. All entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be returned. All entries must comply with the requirements of these Rules. Entries will not be acknowledged by the Sponsor. Incomplete, illegible, late, altered, forged, defaced or garbled entries will be disqualified. The Sponsor will not be responsible for entries lost, stolen, delayed, mutilated, or illegible. If an entrant is not of the age of majority at the time of entry, the entrant must have a parent or legal guardian's permission to enter the contest and, if a prize winner, may require their parent or legal guardian to act on their behalf in regard to completing the Release (see rule 6 below) and in accepting a prize. All references to entrants and winners are deemed to include references to the parent or legal guardian in the event the entrant or winner is under the age of majority.
  3. ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible for the Contest, an entrant must be currently enrolled or enrolled in the future by September 9, 2025 as a student at George Brown College, be a resident of Canada (excluding Quebec), and enter no later than the Contest Closing Date. The Contest is not open to directors, officers, employees of the Sponsor or its affiliates, advertising or promotional agencies, representatives or agents (collectively, the “Group”), or a member of the immediate family of, or a person living in the same household as, anyone belonging to the Group. For the purpose of the Contest, “immediate family” means spouse, mother, father, brother, sister, son and daughter, whether or not they reside in the same household.
  4. PRIZES: There will be one (1) prize available to be won. The prize is a $5000 credit toward student tuition at George Brown College. If the amount of the prize exceeds the student tuition, the excess may only be used for supplies at the George Brown College Bookstore. The prize will be awarded to the confirmed winner only. The prize does not include any other fees, charges or benefits, such as taxes, all of which are the winner’s sole responsibility. The Prize must be accepted as awarded and cannot be transferred, substituted or redeemed for cash except at the sole discretion of the Sponsor. The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to substitute a prize or a component of a prize for a prize or a component of a prize of equal or greater value. The prize will be delivered to the winner by email as provided in the winner’s entry form. Risk of loss and damage to the prize will pass from the Sponsor to the winner at the time of delivery. If a selected entrant is under the age of majority, the prize will be awarded to the selected entrant’s parent or legal guardian, provided that the parent or legal guardian complies with these Rules as if they were the selected entrant or the winner (as applicable).
  5. RANDOM DRAW: The prize winner will be the first entrant whose name is selected at random from eligible entries and who complies with these Rules. A random draw will be made on November 5, 2024, at approximately 3:00 p.m. (EST) in Toronto, Ontario (the “Draw Date”) from all eligible entries. Odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received by the Contest Closing Date. There is no maximum number of entries. The selected entrant will be contacted by email or telephone within ten (10) business days of the Draw Date. If a selected entrant cannot be reached within ten (10) business days of the Draw Date, the selected entrant will be disqualified and another entrant will be randomly selected until such time as contact is made by email or telephone with a selected entrant. Sponsor will not be responsible for failed attempts to contact a selected entrant or be required to contact the selected entrant by any other method. A selected entrant must follow the instructions provided by email or telephone (including, valid proof of the selected entrant’s identity, age, and residence).
  6. SELECTED ENTRANT: In order to win, the selected entrant (and/or the selected entrant's parent or legal guardian, if the selected entrant is not of the age of majority) must: (1) comply with these Rules; (2) correctly answer, without mechanical or other assistance, a time limited mathematical skill-testing question administered by the Sponsor during a pre-arranged, mutually convenient telephone call; and (3) sign the Declaration, Release & Discharge Form provided by the Sponsor (the “Release”) confirming compliance with the Rules, acceptance of the prize as awarded and releasing the Sponsor, its parents and affiliated corporations and advertising and promotional agents and their respective partners, directors, officers, employees and agents (as applicable) from any liability in connection with the prize or the Contest. In the event that a selected entrant (and/or the selected entrant's parent or legal guardian, if the selected entrant is not of the age of majority) does not satisfy the requirements to win a prize, he/she will be disqualified and will not receive a prize and another entrant will be selected for that prize and the selection process described above will be repeated until the prize has been awarded or there are no more qualified entrants. The Sponsor will contact the winner to discuss the awarding of the prize. By accepting the prize, a winner (and in the case of a winner under the age of majority, a winner's parent and/or legal guardian) gives and will give their permission and consent to the use of their name, photograph, likeness and city of residence in any publicity carried out by or on behalf of the Sponsor, in connection with the Contest without compensation and without limitation.
  7. GENERAL CONDITIONS: These Rules are governed solely by the laws of Ontario, Canada and applicable federal laws of Canada, excluding any rules of private international law or the conflict of laws that would lead to the application of any other laws. Any dispute with the Sponsor arising from, connected with or relating to the Contest, the submission of entries to the Contest, participation in the Contest, the prize awarded, the use or misuse of personal information provided in connection with the Contest, or any related matters (“Disputes”) must be resolved before the Courts of Ontario sitting in the City of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and you hereby irrevocably submit and attorn to the original and exclusive jurisdiction of those courts in respect of all Disputes. Proceedings regarding a Dispute must be commenced within one (1) year after the Dispute arose, after which time any and all proceedings regarding the Dispute are barred. The decisions of the Sponsor are final and binding. The Sponsor accepts no responsibility for any loss, damages or claims arising from, connected with, or relating to the Contest or the prize awarded, regardless of the cause or any fault by the Sponsor or any person for whom the Sponsor is responsible, and notwithstanding that any of those persons may have been advised of the possibility of the loss or damage being incurred. Participation in the Contest constitutes irrevocable acceptance of and agreement to all of these Rules.
  8. PRIVACY: The Sponsor respects your right to privacy. Personal information collected from entrants will only be used by the Sponsor to administer the Contest and, only if consent is given at the time of entry, to provide entrants with information regarding participation in research designed to canvas views on education-related activities and/or subscriptions to college e-newsletters and other email communications and SMS messages. Entrants may unsubscribe at any time from receiving email communications and/or SMS messages. For more information regarding the manner of collection, use and disclosure of personal information by the Sponsor, please refer to the Privacy Policy.
  9. NO LIABILITY: The Sponsor will not be responsible for late, lost, illegible, incomplete, inaccurate or destroyed entries, and all such entries are void. The Sponsor and the independent contest organization (if any) will not be liable for any problems, errors or negligence, failure of the Contest website, and do not assume any responsibility for incorrect or inaccurate capture of entry information, technical malfunctions, human or technical error, printing errors, lost, delayed or garbled data or transmissions, omission, interruption, deletion, defect or failures of any telephone or computer lines or networks, computer equipment, system, software or any combination thereof in connection with the Contest, the prize awarded, or entrant’s participation. Entries are subject to verification by the Sponsor or independent contest organization (if any). The Sponsor, its advertising and promotional agencies, their employees, directors, officers, affiliates, agents and representatives are not liable for (a) late, lost, delayed, not received, damaged, misdirected, incomplete, stolen, fraudulent or illegible entries (all of which entries shall be automatically void and not eligible for a prize); (b) failure to receive entries due to transmission failures, busy signals, traffic congestion on the internet or at any website or technical failures of any kind, including, without limitation, malfunctioning of any network, servers, access providers, hardware or software, whether originating with sender or recipient; or (c) any injury or damage to entrant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in the Contest and breaches of privacy due to interference by third party computer "hackers". Entry material/data not satisfying the entry requirements or that have been tampered with or altered are void. In the event it is determined that an entrant has entered in a fashion not sanctioned by these Rules and/or has submitted more than the number of entries permitted by these Rules, the entrant will be disqualified and all of the entries submitted by the entrant will be disqualified.
  10. AMENDING CONTEST: The Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, terminate, suspend, withdraw or change the terms of the Contest at any time, at their sole discretion, without notice and without liability. Without limiting the foregoing, if, for any reason, the Contest is not capable of running as originally planned, due to any reasons such as tampering or infection by computer virus, the Sponsor reserves the right to terminate the Contest and conduct a random draw from all previously received eligible entries.
