Anita Stewart's work included powerful relationships between Chefs and Canadian food lovers across Canada, where she challenged Chefs to define and understand what Canadian cuisine was. Through food and her ambitious passion for everything Canadian, she connected chefs and farmers coast to coast while believing in and building community. Anita significantly impacted how we see the Canadian culinary landscape today and created powerful relationships among chefs and farmers that would last for decades.
Anita was named to the Order of Canada for her lifetime contributions to the culture and Canadian cuisine. Her passion for food is carried through her legacy as the Founder of Food Day Canada and an author of 14 cookbooks about Canadian foods and wines. As a culinary journalist, food historian and Canadian food activist, Anita brought together farmers, producers, researchers, writers, chefs, and food lovers to highlight and push the boundaries of Canadian cuisine.
These annual scholarships will support students by creating a connection with Canadian food for George Brown College's culinary programs and providing students with opportunities to deepen their relationships with food. Some experiences include experiential study tours, scholarships, and awards to educate and support the next generation of Chefs who value and share Anita Stewart's vision for Canadian cuisine.
In celebration of Anita's legacy, we invite you to support the Celebrating Anita Stewart Awards through a charitable donation. You will receive a tax receipt for your charitable donation.
