Biography

Carlos Collantes (he/him/his) is a professor in the Fashion Techniques and Design program at George Brown College, bringing over a decade of teaching experience and a wealth of knowledge in pattern drafting, pattern grading, marker making, and production sewing. A graduate of the Fashion Techniques and Design program, Carlos also holds an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto. He embarked on his career in education as a private tutor, helping students find success through personalized guidance. Having worked with students from such diverse backgrounds, he hopes to foster a supportive and inclusive environment for students to thrive.

Carlos has held various roles within the Toronto fashion industry, engaging in design work for local fashion brands, production sewing, and alterations and tailoring. He has built props and costumes for major TV series and advertising campaigns, and his own design work has been featured at Fashion Art Toronto. He remains active in the industry as one of the technical designers at the college’s Fashion Exchange manufacturing facility. What Carlos enjoys most about the industry is being able to witness the entire creative process unfold, from initial design concept to sketch, from drafted pattern to cut fabric, from sewn garment to final runway presentation.
