Can I transfer General Education credits from a diploma to a degree?

In many cases, students who have earned a grade of B or higher in TWO diploma-level General Education electives can receive exemption from ONE lower-level Liberal Studies elective.

  • If you are a GBC graduate, the Registrar's office will apply the eligible diploma-level courses to your degree requirements.
  • If you have completed diploma courses at another institution, you must submit transcripts and course descriptions to the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Students can earn a maximum of two Liberal Studies elective credits through a diploma-to-degree transfer.

There are some exceptions, for example:

  • Some degree programs do not accept diploma-to-degree transfer of General Education credits.
  • Courses that have already received advance recognition in the degree program (possibly as admission requirements) cannot be counted again as a Liberal Studies elective.
