You’re helping to curb the spread of COVID-19 by wearing a mask and keeping physical distance. There’s another important step you can take to keep the numbers low: download the Government of Canada’s COVID Alert app.
George Brown College encourages everyone in our community to use this app, whether you’re learning and working remotely, or among the small group of students and employees returning to campus. The COVID Alert app will become an even more effective tool as more people download it to their phones.
How it works
Once you download the app and enter your province, that’s it! The app runs in the background. It uses Bluetooth to exchange random codes with nearby phones and checks a list of random codes from people who’ve tested positive. If you’ve been within two metres of one of those people for more than 15 minutes, you’ll receive a notification that includes next steps.
If you test positive
If you test positive for COVID-19 you will receive a one-time key and are encouraged to enter it into the app. Others who have been near you (within two metres for more than 15 minutes) in the past two weeks will receive a notification.
Privacy protected
Because the app uses random codes it has no way of knowing your location, name, address, or your phone’s contact or health history. It is safe to download, and easy to use.
