Biography
Dave Fleming did not intend to become an Accounting Professor. It may have been his high school accounting teacher who aroused his interest in numbers. It may have been a chance summer teaching position at George Brown College that led to him being a member of the Centre for Business for 30 years and counting. His teaching experience over this time includes a variety of courses in various programs, as well as a number of years as Coordinator of the Accounting Diploma programs. Dave’s approach emphasizes student engagement and empowerment, and creates an environment for applied learning that is interesting and fun. Beyond curriculum, the opportunity for students to develop professional and people skills (soft skills) is woven throughout his courses in a team-based, collaborative classroom setting.
Dave is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant, and Certified Management Accountant in the Province of Ontario. He has been a regular contributor to major academic publishers as well as a marker for professional accounting examinations. Recognition at George Brown College includes the STAR Award of Excellence and the Award for Teaching Excellence. Dave was the subject of a career profile by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants in 2009.
