(TORONTO) – George Brown Theatre School’s 3-year Theatre Arts Performance program opens its 2024-25 season with Anna Karenina
Anna Karenina
Written by Helen Edmundson, adapted from the novel by Leo Tolstoy
Directed by Stewart Arnott*
Anna Karenina is a sophisticated woman; beautiful, charming, and admired by polite society. Trapped in a convention-bound and passionless marriage, a chance encounter sparks her hidden desire 'to be alive', and she abandons her previous life for a dangerous love affair — with tragic consequences. Helen Edmundson's impressionistic adaptation captures both the great sweep and the intimate, human detail of Tolstoy's novel in a surprisingly economical way. The deeply human struggle between following our deepest desires versus leading a useful and healthy life is a timeless theme.
Other creative artists include Debbie Read* (stage management); Glenn Davidson (set design); Des’ree Gray (costume design); Siobhán Sleath (lighting design); Scott Banks (sound design).
The Theatre School at George Brown College is one of Canada’s foremost training grounds for young actors. The curriculum is a rigorous, conservatory-style approach where most courses are directly related to the acting profession. The faculty is comprised of working professionals (actors, directors, teachers) who guide students into achieving their potential as performing artists.
