Giselle Basanta is George Brown College's first general legal counsel, and one of only a few Black women leading a legal department in Canada.
Over the last 14 months, she's been building the college's seminal legal office, helped largely in part by her extensive institutional background.
“I always wanted to work for a community college,” she said in an interview for Canadian Lawyer Mag. “It’s been super exciting, especially with the appointment of a new president and executive team and the post-pandemic mandate with regard to righting the economy, especially in health care and hospitality.”
