On Saturday, March 25, at 8:30 p.m., millions worldwide will switch off their non-essential lights for Earth Hour. With this shared action, participants voice their concerns about climate change and signal their commitment to creating a more sustainable world.
This Saturday, George Brown College will turn off all interior, exterior and signage lighting at our three campuses, except for lights required for safety. We have participated in Earth Hour for over a decade since the college launched its first Green Plan in 2008. Wherever you are this Saturday, we encourage you to support Earth Hour. "We believe that environmental sustainability is a crucial strategic priority and are committed to advancing it through collaboration, curriculum, and campus initiatives with local and global influence, as outlined in Roadmap to the Future: Vision 2030, Strategy 2026," said George Brown College President Dr. Gervan Fearon.

Limberlost Place, GBC's mass-timber building
Construction is progressing on Limberlost Place, our mass-timber building at Waterfront Campus. This exciting facility will harness green energy from the surrounding environment using solar chimneys, rooftop photovoltaics and deep-water cooling. In addition to housing our School of Computer Technology, School of Architectural Studies and a childcare centre for the community, Limberlost Place will be home to the Brookfield Sustainability Institute, a research and innovation hub focused on addressing problems related to climate change.
Limberlost Place will open to students and the community in January 2025.
