Did you make a new year’s resolution to get active in 2023? A new satellite athletic centre is now open at Waterfront Campus that can help you achieve your fitness goals.
Located on the lower level at the Daphne Cockwell Centre for Health Sciences (51 Dockside Dr.), the facility includes a weight room and multi-purpose studio with changing rooms, lockers and showers. The centre operates Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Athletics and Recreation team will develop programming in the future based on community feedback.
The facility’s official opening is Tuesday, January 17. Athletics and Recreation team members will run pop-up activities with giveaways throughout the day.
“We’re excited to open this new space at Waterfront Campus. Providing a convenient way to get active and achieve fitness goals contributes to the health and wellness of students and employees,” said Athletics and Recreation Manager Melanie Gérin-Lajoie. “We look forward to celebrating the official launch of the Waterfront Campus Athletic Centre with the GBC community.”
The new satellite athletic centre provides an essential temporary space while repairs and restoration continue at 200 King St. E. at St. James Campus following a fire in 2021. Full Athletics and Recreation programming currently runs at Casa Loma Campus. Find details at athletics.georgebrown.ca.
Limberlost Place, the mass-timber building currently under construction and set to open in January 2025, will house a permanent fitness centre for Waterfront Campus.
