Part of GBC's International Day of Persons with Disabilities initiatives.

Join us as we celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPWD), a day dedicated to promoting the rights, well-being, and inclusion of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society. This year's message, "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future," highlights the importance of creating an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.

Through inspiring talks, workshops, and activities, we aim to raise awareness, foster collaboration, and drive meaningful change for a more accessible and equitable world. Together, let's champion diversity, break down barriers, and empower individuals of all abilities.

We will begin with opening remarks from Dr. Gervan Fearon, GBC President.

Keynote Address: Academic Ableism with Dr. Jay Dolmage (1PM-2PM)

This keynote will discuss identifying ableist attitudes and approaches in academic institutions’ systems and structures and recommending ways for staff and students with disabilities to have more agency and equitable opportunities in work and learning spaces.

Panel Discussion with Staff, Faculty and Students with Disabilities (2PM-3PM)

A discussion on how post-secondary education institutions can proactively counter ableist attitudes and approaches and give more agency to persons with disabilities in work and learning spaces.
