What is an e-text?

An e-text is a document that is read in digital form with enhanced functionality (bookmarking, notes, homework modules etc) that in most cases can be downloaded for offline use or used on multiple platforms (phone, tablet etc). They are files ending in .epub and pdf. Many of your course textbooks will be made available in e-text format rather than a printed paper copy. A textbook in digital form might also be called an e-book or e-textbook.

In some cases, the cost for e-text access is charged as part of the course fees. In other cases, students purchase the e-text or printed textbook separately.

Note that on the first day of class in each of your courses, your professor will indicate the required materials and books and whether they are included in your course fees. Unless otherwise indicated, there is no rush to purchase textbooks ahead of time. It might be prudent to wait until that first class before purchasing, especially if you are on a special timetable with added or deleted courses.
