What is a General Education course?

Main Content
398 views

General Education courses are a vital component of all post-secondary certificate and diploma programs.

These courses are designed to enable students to enhance their critical thinking and analytic reasoning skills and to broaden their knowledge and experience through the study of arts and humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.

By learning and collaborating with peers in a variety of programs, students develop communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills that are essential in their personal and social lives and highly valued in all career fields.

General Education and Liberal Studies courses are NOT your program-related electives. Your program-specific electives/options will have different course codes.

Students can view the General Education or Liberal Studies requirements for their program.

Students can check their academic record on Degree Works to find out if they have outstanding General Education requirements. Degree Works is available through STU-VIEW.
