Providing Students with Service Referrals
During the semester, you may need to refer your students to additional support services available at George Brown. Familiarize yourself with the wealth of resources available to students at GBC to ensure effective support throughout the semester.

Library Services
The Library Learning Commons (LLC) has locations at all George Brown campuses and a designated library liaison is available to assist faculty and students in each department. Our librarians can assist you with building reading lists for your courses or providing research support to your students. Tutoring & Learning Centre
The Tutoring & Learning Centre (TLC) provides students with learning support for English, math, accounting through individual tutoring, workshops and resources. The TLC works, in large part, by word of mouth and referrals from the faculty. If you feel that your students could benefit from tutoring services, please direct them to the TLC website. Faculty can also refer students to the TLC by downloading and filling out the applicable referral form and having the student take the form to the TLC at their campus.
Accessible Learning Services
Accessible Learning Services (ALS) provides academic support and services for all George Brown College students with disabilities or ongoing medical concerns who register with ALS. Faculty are responsible for participating in the accommodation process, including considering accommodation requests, carrying out specific accommodations for students with disabilities, being knowledgeable about and sensitive to disability issues, and maintaining student confidentiality.
When student accommodation plans are active, ALS will send an automatic email notification to the instructor with a link to the Faculty Web Portal where you can log in to view and/or download the accommodation plan. The portal displays accommodation plans in two convenient ways — by course or by student name. If changes are made to an accommodation plan, a new notification email is sent to faculty providing you with the link to the updated plan.
The Accessible Learning Services Guidelines and Processes Manual (2023) has been created to provide more detailed information on how to apply testing, academic and field placement accommodations.
Student Counselling & Well-being Services
Student Counselling & Well-being Services offers a range of free and confidential services and programs to all George Brown students. Services offered include individual and group counselling, skill-building and wellness groups and workshops as well as peer led support groups and one-on-one peer-mentoring.
Counselling appointments are available virtually and in-person by appointment only. Students may book an appointment through the Counselling Student Portal or by emailing, calling or visiting their front desk. While Student Counselling & Well-being Services are not a walk-in service, daily urgent appointments are available for students who are in crisis with no imminent safety concerns and can be made by email or phone.
