How to prepare for your test
Get ready for your assessment by looking through our General Preparation Checklist. We've outlined what you need on before your test, on test day, and any special circumstances that may come up.
Before Test Day
- Testing varies by campus so confirm your testing location:
- St. James Campus (200 King Street East, Building SJA, Room 275A)
- Admission and Placement assessments
- Students registered with accommodations
- CLBPT - Canadian Language Benchmarks Placement Test
- Casa Loma Campus (160 Kendal Avenue, Building C, Room C343 - located within the Library Learning Commons)
- MTCU Testing - Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities
- Asbestos Abatement
- External Proctoring Services / Test Invigilation for other institutions
- Students registered with accommodations
- Waterfront Campus (51 Dockside Drive, Library Learning Commons, Room 532 - access through the library on the 6th floor)
- St. James Campus (200 King Street East, Building SJA, Room 275A)
- Check the date and time of your appointment and ensure that you will arrive on time.
- Our assessment sessions begin at 9:30 am or 1:00 pm. If you show up later than these start times, then we may have to reschedule you for another session.

What to Bring
- A valid form of government issued photo ID to confirm your identity. Acceptable forms of photo ID include the following:
- Driver's Licence
- Canadian Identity Card
- Canadian Citizenship Card
- Passport
- Permanent Resident Card
- Certificate of Indian Status Card
- George Brown College Student ID Card
- The test fee if applicable.
- If you are an international student writing an Admission Assessment, please bring your test letter (paper or electronic copy) that was emailed to you by your Admissions Officer. We cannot test international students for admission purposes without seeing this letter.
- A pen or a pencil.
What Not to Bring
- Any valuables. George Brown College is not responsible for your belongings or personal items.
- You will be required to leave all of your belongings (including any food, drinks or liquids) on the rack provided.
- Phones, smart watches or any electronic devices. If you bring any electronic devices, you will be required to turn them off and leave them in the provided rack (unless your approved accommodations include an electronic device).
- Do not bring a calculator unless your approved accommodations require it.
Special Circumstances
- If you arrive at the Assessment Centre on the day of the assessment feeling sick, anxious or unprepared and feel that it may affect your performance, please consider rescheduling your assessment for another day. If this is the case, please speak with a staff member for assistance.
- If you experience any problems during your assessment, please inform one of the invigilators in the lab right away.
- Assessment Centre staff are not able to assist you with an issue if you wait until after the assessment to report it.
- Please be advised that any problems encountered on the test day may be documented by staff for future reference.
- If you arrive late to the assessment, you will have the option to rebook. Please note that due to shorter hours on Saturdays, Assessment Centre staff will not accept students or applicants for testing after 1:30 pm.
- If tests are not completed prior to closing time, you will be required to return on another day. All test scores will not be entered until you have returned and completed all assessments that are required.
