INDIGENOUS EDUCATION STRATEGY
We're pleased to announce the release of our Indigenous Education strategy, which is a pathway and commitment to transformative change.
Door Decals
Starting this semester, the crest of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, along with our Indigenous Initiatives medallion, will be proudly displayed next to GBC's logo on all campus doorways.
Upcoming Events
The Indigenous Initiatives team has many events planned for the next few months, including our Indigenous Knowledge Keeper Series. Visit our Cultural Events & Teachings page to register!
Biintige - Welcome
We welcome George Brown students, employees, alumni and community members to this space. The Indigenous Initiatives team promotes knowledge sharing and works to support students in achieving their academic, work and life goals at the College.
Throughout the year, we curate events, teachings and workshops to promote understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture.
We are fortunate to learn from the knowledge of our elders. They are integral to the Indigenous Initiatives team as they help our community to better understand both our history and potential future.
Our team assists GBC's Indigenous community in navigating resources, providing information on college-wide activities, as well as other services such as counselling, cultural teachings and workshops.
Remembering the Honourable Murray Sinclair
As a college community, we were sad to hear of the passing of the Honourable Murray Sinclair, the former judge, human rights champion, senator, and chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). For us at George Brown, Sinclair’s work informed the creation of our Indigenous Education Strategy, collaboration and work with our treaty partner, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and other college-wide efforts to embed Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being into our decision-making, curriculums and community-building efforts on and off campus.
Upcoming Event
Indigenous Knowledge Keeper Series featuring Denise B. Mcleod
Join us virtually on Wednesday, November 27 at 2:00 p.m. for Indigeneity & Disability: Perspectives on Education and Accessibility, will explore the intersections of identity, ability, and education through an Indigenous lens.
