Biintige - Welcome

We welcome George Brown students, employees, alumni, and community members to this inclusive space where we honour the rich diversity of experiences and perspectives within the community. The Indigenous Initiatives team is dedicated to fostering an environment of learning, collaboration, and support, helping students achieve their academic, professional, and personal aspirations at the College.

Throughout the year, the Indigenous Initiatives team organizes various events, gatherings, and workshops to deepen understanding and appreciation of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and worldviews.

We are grateful to work alongside and learn from the wisdom of Elders and Knowledge Keepers. Their teachings and guidance enrich our community’s understanding of the historical and contemporary realities faced by Indigenous peoples and inspire pathways toward a shared, equitable future.

Our team is here to support the Indigenous community at George Brown College by connecting students with culturally grounded resources, offering guidance on navigating college-wide opportunities, and providing access to critical services such as counselling, cultural teachings, and interactive workshops. We are committed to creating spaces where students feel empowered, supported, and celebrated for who they are and where they come from.

Together, we strive to build a community that honours Indigenous voices and stories while promoting reconciliation, inclusivity, and collective growth.

Remembering the Honourable Murray Sinclair

As a college community, we were sad to hear of the passing of the Honourable Murray Sinclair, the former judge, human rights champion, senator, and chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). For us at George Brown, Sinclair’s work informed the creation of our Indigenous Education Strategy, collaboration and work with our treaty partner, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and other college-wide efforts to embed Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being into our decision-making, curriculums and community-building efforts on and off campus.
