
Join startGBC, BFI and BSSN on February 19th, from 3-5pm in the Black Futures Initiatives Space, for an inspiring Black History Month event at George Brown College, celebrating the success of Black entrepreneurs who started their journeys right here.
This Panel of Entrepreneurs will share their unique journey, highlighting the challenges they’ve faced, the lessons they’ve learned, and the successes they’ve achieved in their respective industries. The discussion will be moderated by Susie Mensah from the Black Futures Initiative, guiding an engaging conversation with successful George Brown College alumni who have built thriving businesses. Panelists include Xavier Watson (X-Posed Contracting), Danielle Spencer (Forbes 30 Under 30, some creative agency), Wangechi Mwaura (The Sweet Safari), and Godfrey Jonas (Owujupe).
They will speak about the Realities of entrepreneurship, including overcoming obstacles, building a strong brand, and creating lasting community impact. This discussion aims to inspire, educate, and empower aspiring entrepreneurs by providing real-world knowledge and firsthand experiences from industry leaders.
We are grateful for the BFI for sharing their space to host this event as it is a unique opportunity for students, aspiring entrepreneurs, and community members to connect, learn, and engage with Black business leaders. Attendees will gain valuable knowledge and inspiration to navigate their own entrepreneurial paths.
The Panel Discussion will run from 3pm-4pm followed by light refreshments and networking from 4pm-5pm.
