TORONTO — George Brown College president Anne Sado has been named one of Canada’s most powerful women of 2013 by the Women’s Executive Network (WXN).
For the third time, Sado received a prestigious Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award in the Public Sector Leaders category, acknowledging her many achievements at George Brown College and across the city of Toronto.
Since the award’s inception over a decade ago, more than 720 accomplished female leaders have received this recognition. Winners are selected based on their strategic vision and leadership, their organization’s financial performance, and their commitment to their communities.
“It’s truly an honour to receive this award along with so many visionary female leaders,” said Sado. “I want to thank the Women’s Executive Network for highlighting the extraordinary women across the country who are making a positive impact in our community and driving our economy forward.”
This announcement adds to Sado’s long list of outstanding achievements, including an appointment to Member of the Order of Canada earlier this year. She was also named a Women of Influence Diversity Champion and received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.
Since becoming George Brown’s first female president in 2004, Sado has built a strong leadership team, developed meaningful partnerships with industry and government, expanded and updated the college’s campuses and more than doubled enrolment. Under her leadership George Brown has become one of Canada’s largest, most diverse and respected colleges, strengthening the cultural, social and economic fabric of the city of Toronto.
Sado will join her fellow recipients at the Top 100 Leadership Summit and Awards Gala on December 4, appropriately themed “What Glass Ceiling?” During the Summit held at the Sheraton Centre Toronto, Top 100 Award winners will provide insights on how they managed to become leaders in their sectors to inspire the next generation of female leaders.
