Who should attend this seminar?

Plumbers, Pipe-fitters, Engineers, or anyone involved in the water distribution industry needing O.W.W.A. Cross Connection Control Specialist Certification, but to become a certified tester you must be an Engineer, Engineering technologist, Journeyman Plumber, Plumbing Apprentice, Journeyman Steamfitter, Sprinkler Fitter, Irrigation Specialist or anyone authorized by the purveyor's by-law.

Developed and delivered by the Plumbing department at George Brown College.

Upon successful completion of the five day seminar, the Ontario Water Works Association "Cross Connection Control Specialist Tester" exam will be administered at no additional cost.

The seminar will include a series of explanatory materials to compliment multimedia presentations. In addition the AWWA Canadian Cross Connection Control Manual is included with full registration. Knowledge of existing plumbing code is required in order to follow the topics.

Participants are responsible for bringing a calculator, work boots and safety glasses.

What you need to know your first day

Seminar Cost: $1218.15 - includes five day seminar, administration of O.W.W.A Cross Connection Control Specialist Tester EXAM, 5 year O.W.W.A. registration fee and workbook materials.

  • The Cross Connection Control Specialist Full Certification seminar (BLDG 9030) will be delivered on the following dates:
    • October 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 2024 the CRN for this seminar is 17728.
    • December 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 2024 the CRN for this seminar is 20335.

Doors will open at 7:30 am and classes will begin promptly at 8am and end at 5pm.

Location: Plumbing Lab, (beside gym) in the basement of 'C' Building, George Brown College, Casa Loma Campus, Room C119, located at 160 Kendal Ave.

Breaks will be taken at regular intervals, beverages or food are not supplied but are available on campus.

Re-Certification

Please note: The OWWA requires that you re-certify every 5 years to maintain your backflow tester certification. Municipalities will not allow you to test in their area unless your certification is up to date. For more information go to www.owwa.ca.

  • The Cross Connection Control Specialist Re-certification seminar (BLDG 6069) will be delivered on the following dates:
    • September 27, 28, 2024 the CRN for this seminar is 17727.

This is a sixteen hour seminar prepared for OWWA certificate holders. Re-certification is designed to update the cross connection specialist on devices, processes and to re-enforce the importance of testing in this industry.

Maintaining Large Devices (also a Re-Certification)

This is a three-day advanced course is for individuals holding a current O.W.W.A. Cross Connection Control testers' certification. Students take part in practical and theoretical work and gain hands-on experience in the repair and maintenance of large diameter backflow preventers from various manufacturers. Emphasis is on advanced testing, trouble-shooting and safety procedures. This course also counts as a re-certification course.

  • The Cross Connection Control Specialist Maintaining Large Devices seminar (BLDG 9105) will be delivered on the following dates:
    • June 2025, exact date TBD – Registration will open in late January to early February 2025.
